Bob, apologies aren't necessary. The option was there to use ! Many folks have done it and apparently many folks didn't enjoy it. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I used to change the subject headings only to correct TYPE-O's, but that was only a rare event -- now no more jumping into a thread I think is NEW only to find it was an older thread just with new clothes. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif )</font>

Hi Junkman,

Are you familiar with the old joke that "On the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog." That is, of course, unless you post your picture! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Neat pic, by the way!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I resemble that remark..... Actually that is Star, my Weimeraner pup.... 2 years old and the 5th one that I have had in 30+ years. The only time that I didn't have a Weimeraner was for the 8 years that we had Kelsey, my German Shorthair Pointer. After she passed on, a customer at my wifes store gave Star to us as a present, because I always would play with his Weimeraners and give them cookies when we would cross paths at the old car shows.

The picture is of Kelsey at age 6 1/2 about a year before she died. She was a very special dog in my life... I miss her every day and a day doesn't go by that I am not reminded of her.

Does anyone have any problem if the original thread topic were to be APPENDED such that the original subject title remained intact?

I am one that changed the subject titles on occassion (once per year?), but did this by adding comments to the original subject title (not deleting or altering it).

A recent example of when I did this was the "Which GPS to buy" thread that I started. I had a photo of a corn field that had been artistically mowed using a GPS for guidance, so I when I added a post with the photo to the existing thread I changed the subject to read "Which GPS to buy [mowing w/GPS]". I did not start a new thread since I felt like this added to the original post (potential use of a GPS).

My personal order of preference regarding titles are:

(1) Subject titles can be appended but not edited
(2) Subject titles are locked and cannot be edited nor appended (what we just got...)
(3) Subject titles are editable (what we had caused problems)

Just my 2 cents worth...

Personally, I'm in favor of not being able to change or append titles. It just makes it too confusing. IF I were to agree to any kind of editing, it would only be allowable if it is done by the original poster, and then as you suggested in #1. I guess I could live with that if a compromise is needed.

I guess I am the odd man out on the changing subjects. I just do not see the big deal. In the post DocHeb mentioned its just a natural progression of the same subject. We will have a zillion strands to read if every time some one wants to say something differently. In fact this very strand has already digressed from the original topic ! I do wish I could do that in real life though, you know mid sentence just put up your hand in the halt position and say....I'm sorry I can not change the subject. Please hang up and call back ! lol. I guess I think it's small potatoes because it seems if there is enough interest in the primary subject the strand would never digress in the first place. It certainly never justifies a flaming response. Dave

The problem with changing the post for me is I do follow certain posts. On the main forum page the original post shows up but when click to go into the forum it no longer is there. Or at least that is the way it use to be. Anyway when you get into the forum then you have to click on each of the non-read ones to find the one your looking for. Maybe just more of a nuisance and I can live with it either way.
