I've sometimes found it easier to crowd/dump it over forward, not so much that it will fall off when it lets go, but enough that the attachment is reasonably balanced. Some of those the attachments don't have the brackets in the exact right place and that can make the locking rod bind.
If the locking rod has grease points, lube the snot out of them at any opportunity. If no grease points, I've found spray chain lube to be effective. Or the rod can have a tweak. Don't worry I've had plenty of hammers bars etc out!!

Minute I read you were having trouble I thought you were setting it down to release.

Yes leave it in the air "level" then release the latch. You can still set the attachment down where ever you want, then pick up the next one while still in the seat.
