how much is that stay lube?

when in mowing season and greasing my 15' and 10' mowers, I go thru tubes of grease like howitzer shells on the first few minutes of D-Day :)

$3.99/ tube on sale

14 Oz. Sta-Plex Extreme Pressure Premium Red Grease

It is made by CRC. If you actually look up the specs on that grease (4-ball wear, scar, timken OK load, etc) you will see that it is actually a pretty good grease.

The Major Oil Companies were never too famous for high quality greases in times past. Thier stuff worked, but if you felt you needed and demanded the best you could find---you would turn to a specialty company who specialized in grease.

I have been using for awhile now, however, Chevron Delo Grease #2 on everything here---tractors, mowers, cars, trucks. Chevron has a number of outstanding products, such as their Delo 400 engine oil that is factory fill at Kenworth and Peterbilt, they have a unique gear oil that is patented, a borate product rather than sulphur-phosphorus called Ultra-Gear that is tremendous. But I have found the Delo Grease to be able to lubricate all I own with excellent results, without spending a fortune on the product. Mobil Oil has their XHP greases, one has Moly if you prefer Moly, or choose the plain one without Moly, either one will do a great job and keep money in your pocket. Nothing wrong with 6.00 buck a tube grease, but there is alternatives that still perform and do a good job.

Thanks everyone for the good info. Anyone know of good websites to buy grease from? The tractor dealer is an hour away so I'd prefer to order it online. I was leaning towards some of the TRC products (crown and chassis or paragon), but can't seem to find a place to buy them. Anyone know of a high quality high pressure lithium moly that's sold online?

most farm stores and equipment dealers and petroleum dealers and parts stores can order you grease by the case. unless greasing the space shuttle or something.. usually you can find a high quality grease even at napa or tractor supply. Might pay 4$ a tube.. but you can get it.. I know my TSC sells a molley grease.. so does napa. Our local walmart sells everything from the basic 'brown' no frills grease all the way up to the molley, food grade white, and the sticky red and water proof blue/green marine greases.. but then I know walmart stock varies by location.. we are in a bit more rural area .. can get tractor fluid and pails of gear oil here too.. some larger city walmarts don't sell that stuff i hear..

I was looking for some grease for my FEL last week, and was surprised that the local TSC didn't have any moly/EP grease on the shelf. They had three different kinds, but none had moly written anywhere on the label. So I stopped at the John Deere dealer. They had about 10 different kinds of grease, and one was their "HD" type that was labeled moly and EP. The label made it sound like it was more for heavy machinery than tractors, but I figured that couldn't be bad. It was dark black. The original grease that got pushed out of my FEL (on a Kubota) was aqua blue.

yer tractor is just small heavy equipment.. ;)

traveler brand should have a moly special purpose 14oz tube grease.. might have been out of stock. our local store also carries mystic and lucas greases.

good luck.

I know napa and car quest can order for you.. or.. look in the phone bok for a fuel / lube distribuitor.. they can sell bulk packs of grease. past that.. amsoil distribuitors sell online if you like expensive greases.. :)

Thanks I'll have to check it out. I'm in an urban / suburban area, so I can never find anything I want at Wal-mart or other stores like that because all they stock are clothes and maybe some motor oil if your lucky. I did see a TSC the other day that must be new so I might give that a try. If all else fails maybe the dealer will mail me a case if I pay over the phone.
