Changing HST Filter 4060

I did my 50 hour maintenance on my L4060. The one thing that it called for was to change the HST fluid filter. The book said that fluid would leak out, but wow, I lost a good gallon or so. Does that sound right? It was very difficult to get the old one off and the new one on since my BH Subframe is right there and there is hardly any room to get your hand in.

That fluid loss sounds about right. I lost about 2 gallons when I changed my HST and HYD filters for the 50 hr. change.
After I did mine I saw a post that others had success with to minimize the fluid loss. They hooked a shop vac to the hydraulic fill port and turned it on before changing filters. They claim the suction holds the fluid from running out when just changing the filters. My next change will be the fluid and filters so I won't get to try this trick. Just top off the fluid and be good to go.
