cub cadet 1024
I just walked out to start mowing when I noticed the right front tire of my Cub Cadet lt1024 has a flat..really flat. Since I've only owned the tractor about a month I don't want to wreck something as I attempt to remove the tire. I've spun the hubcap, pulled it, tried to pry it off (without too much force). How do I get that thing off and then what can I expect in regards to removing the tire and wheel. The parts list is not much help to me.

If the rubber is still good, take the wheel to a tire shop & have them pop in an inner-tube in for you.

Marci, did you mean an LT1042 instead of LT1024? It's been awhile since I had to remove one of those, but I think you simply have to pry that cap off, and it does take a little force, then you'll find a cotter pin to remove, a big washer to slide off, and then pull the wheel off. And remember, my experience is dated, so I could be way off base.

Yes, you are correct...I must have been a little dyslexic last nite. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I was afraid to put too much force onto that plastic little hubcap but will go ahead and do it this evening. I wasn't sure if there was something on the backside holding it on. Cotter pin I can handle so it looks like it should be pretty staight forward. Thanks for your quick response!

I got a flat on my 2042 the second time I mowed with it. It was a Russian Olive thorn. I plugged it with one of those tubeless tire repair plugs and it hasn't leaked since. Didn't even have to take it off the tractor that way.

yeah, but at about 60 mph, it has a terrible shake due to being out of balance. lmao

I had a multitude of flats when I first moved to our new place. We had several large locust trees (that have since been removed) and mowing around them was dangerous!!!!! I keep my tires filled with Gunk (green stuff you can get at most Home Depot/Lowes) and it works like a charm. In a flat tire just take out the valve stem (each bottle comes with a tool) and put in the whole bottle. Fill the tire with air and give it a spin. I have pulle some VERY large thorn out only to see the holes almost immedieatly filled with green Gunk. No more flats for me.....

If you have to take the tire off the rim it would be much easier to take it to a mower shop and let them do it.
Because of the small diameter of the tires, they don`t have much stretch.
They are a SOB to get off and on.
I wrestled with one for two hours one time and it finally kicked my butt.

Leave the tire where it is, go get a bottle of "slime" remove the valve stem core, fill it up with slime, put valve stem core back in, air it up and be done with it

I'm with Duc on this one, although my favorite product is Fixaflat. I buy it two and three cans at a time. You don't even need to remove the core, just thread it on the stem and it airs/slimes the tire right up.

The only thing I wasn't using it on was car tires because of balance and the mess it caused if you had to dismount the tire. The last slow leak I had, I stopped at three garages and none could check the tire so I injected a can of Fixaflat, that was 8 months ago, no balance issues whatsoever. I'll warn the person changing the tire if I get to that point. I hear it's real messy!

I joke with my brother in law that a true measure of a mans success is how many pneumatic tires he has, I think I'm at 72! There might be a flaw in my thinking!
