I have a Montana 2740. Bought it with turf tires. I want to go with R1 but will settle for R4. My tire size is 41 x 14.00 - 20. I am ok leaving turf on the front. One of my local tire shop said they don't make a ag tire to fit on that rim. I will by new rims if I must. Just wanted a wide ag tire. The rim is a Titan EW 03 15 04 S2. 03 18807 0. Not sure what they all mean but any help would be appreciated. It is 4x4 so I know I have to make sure the circumference is the same.

I am not sure of what you are asking.

I looked up a 2740 and it seems to be a small compact tractor. TractorData has the AG (R1) tire sizes of 6.0 - 14.0 (F) and 9.5 - 24.0 (R). R1 tires are typically narrower than the other types and I do not know if they have different rim widths or not. Your usage will dictate which is best- R1, R3 or R4. R4 is probably the best all around tire and the type on my tractor. I think you may need to investigate whether the original R3 rims are different than those for R1 and R4 and go from there.

I think I know what you're saying. You're willing to purchase rims to get the widest R1 tire as possible. Usually however with width comes height. I would look to a 16" or 20" rim to fit a radial type ag. Radials are not as tough on grass but you always have the turfs for lawn work anyway. I had a JD with 9.5x24 ags with 6x14 fronts. I did see a JD just like mine with much wider ags but on a smaller rim diameter wise so apparently it can be done. R1, R3, and R4 tires are all very different and all have their purpose. Mix and match doesn't make sense. Pick the style that suits your needs most of the time.

Thanks for all the info. R1 would probably be the best for me as it is on a farm. I don't worry much about the yard. I just didn't know if one of the others would fit on the rim that I have. I am on somewhat of a limited budget and was will to just do the rear. May not be a option. I will do some more research. Also don't know what other tractors may have the same bolt pattern.

I am in a similar situation and am switching from Turfs to R4's. I have the same 41x14.0-20 on the rear and 27x8.5-15 on the front. Changing to R4's i had to go to 14.9-24 on the rear and 10-16.5 in the front. If i went to R1's I had two options:

Rear: 12.4x24 Front: 8-16
Rear: 13.6x24 Front: 8-16

Your best bet is to find a LS dealer and get the entire tire/wheel package and verify that you are getting the correct sizes for your tractor, as the wrong combination will damage your transmission and or axles.

It's not cheap changing, figure $2500+/- for tires and rims.

Thanks Droptop. I have a LS dealer a little over a hour away. Hopefully I can just get rims. I have a local guy for the tires I should be under 500 for 2 rear tires. Only had a little over that for 2 12.4-28 and about $160 for the 2 fronts last year. That was R1. Not sure if R4 are more.

I've recently gone through this with my Massey and found I could by aftermarket rims from Miller tire MUCH cheaper than rims from the dealer. That may or may not be the case for your rig. Wold Rim also gave me a good quote (they'll build to suit) but their shipping cost was a bit steep. Good luck.
