I just did my 300 hour service and had some questions about changing the transmission fluid and welcome advice from those more experienced than I. First the manual showed 4 drain plugs and I drained the oil from all 4 - was I supposed to do that? Secondly, it is supposed to hold about 4 gallons of fluid. I put in about 3 gallons and then let it run for a few minutes. When I checked the fluid level, it was a pretty good ways above the top mark on the dipstick. I moved all the hydraulics and drove a little bit but it's still on the high side. Does it take a bit of time for the fluid to circulate or did I just put too much in and need to take some out? Thanks

First of all.... welcome to TBN.

Yes... you need to drain all of the plugs. On my B series I think there are 4 and if you don't drain all of them you will not get but a portion of the fluid out.

Did you look at what the manual calls for to refill? If it says 4 gallons you should be able to put all or most of that in without it reading above the full level on the dipstick. Did you change the filter? The filter will hold a quart or so and will allow for a bit more to drain from the drain plugs.

Either which way... I wouldn't run it if it is considerably over filled. Over filling trannys can cause foaming and present problems. I would drain a little at a time until it reads full on the dipstick.

Hope this helps!

Seems like the first time I changed the fluids on my B2710 I had the same problem. I checked it then and later and it was full so I never did get the whole suggested amount in there. I was thinking it was more like 3.5 gallons, but I don't have the manual in front of me.

The last time I did it I think I drained it longer and got pretty much all of the fluid in there.

But you definitely have to use each of the plugs.
