My JD 2520 is about due for the 50 hr. service, which includes changing the transmission oil. I never did this before and was curious about how much transmission oil I should expect to pour out of once the plug is removed? The
owner's manual lists the transmission as holding a total of 3.9 gallons. Can't imagine having all that fluid pour out once the transmission drain plug is removed. Appreciate any advice or information regarding this.

You'll probably get alittle over 3 gal out of it.

I use one of these, it'll hold 5 gal.

Rand,

Don't forget to drain the reduction boxes at the ends of the rear axle.

Also the crankcase with filter is 4 quarts and not the three the manual states.

Also, remember that there are three plugs to be removed. The final drives each have a drain.

I have a large oil change dolly from Northern Tool that fits just right under the transaxle and is great for catching the mess when you remove the filter. I use a flat metal plate leaning against the inside of the rear wheel to direct the flow of oil from the final drive drains into the dolly. It's really pretty easy to do the fluid changes on this tractor. You should have no problem as long as you have a large enough drain pan.

Silly question, but do you drain the transmission oil from all three locations at once or close one up and then move to the next?

Secondly will very much oil drain from the final drives?

Willl is that a JD drain pan? Looks like I am going to need a bigger boat er I mean drain pan.
