JD 870
Just recently the charge light on my JD 870 would not turn off. The connections appear clean and tight, the fan belt is properly tensioned, a volt meter shows 12.5 volts regardless of the RPM, and a new battery was installed by the JD Dealer two years ago. The manual doesn't state what the proper charge rate is, I believe most vehicles charge at about 13.5v. I suppose I need to know the proper charging rate, and also how to check the voltage regulator.

What do you guys think???

I think you are definitely not charging the battery.

yep, not charging. Charging voltage should be close to 14V. Sorry cannot help you on your specific setup.

I agree with the others.. you are seeing the battery static voltage..

Pull the alt and vr and take it to a shop to be checked..
