Charging A New Battery?

Many older tractors had it under the seat or over a rear axle next to the fender. Some had them under or beside the rear of the hood area. Putting them in front of the radiator is good for assembly and manufacturing, but a bad idea.

You are fortunate to have no corrosion. Not so with many CUT owners. Perhaps you radiator is coated with something. Some CUT's have a "sealed" lead acid battery with a vent tube that routes the fumes down below the radiator. This is a good idea, however the replacement batteries seem to be only available at a dealer for an outrageous price. Of course this boosts dealer profits with expensive battery and radiator sales, so for the manufacturers it is a win/win situation.

Those dealer only batteries are known as "GOTCHA".... same size battery at Wally World for an Audi is $39.99 ..... at the dealer, it is $239.99 plus installation. The difference is that the Wally World battery has a hold down tangs on the long side and the Audi original has it on the short end sides..... That is the total difference. Without that, the battery can not be clamped in place. I learned this when I took my neighbor to get a new battery when hers failed this summer.

They run the range of really old to newer. After posting, I also went to check out on our heavy equipment. And again.. found every type of mounting scheme thinkable... side of engine, mid engine.. ( some mid engine mouns had the battery higher than the engine, even with fuel tank.. so engine wasn't pushed forward..e tc... lets see.. under foot rests, ahead of foot rest, lower side of engine, front lower side of engine, directly in front of radiator..go figure... in front of radiator, but lower to not block it.. , under seat, behind seat
stradled on either side of tranny, under , before or after foot rests... ok thats it.. That is from everything from a lawn tractor to 50's and 60's era tractors, to larger industrial tractors from the 70-90's, and some small non-name brand inports from the 90's ( eicher, mahindra, etc ).

As for problems with the tranny... just depends on the setup... on my NH .. the tranny, is below and forward of the operator.. but then.. I have a cushing glide seat .. so no room there.

One thing I noticed.. with the various combinations of mid-mount batteries.. they obviously has the shortest run to the starter/alternator connections... less BIG copper to route around on the tractor... I really like that.

I've seen that.. easy to get around... for a couple bucks you can get the universal tie down that has a bar across the top, and an eye on each side. A long screw with a hook goes thru each side to hook to something... almost always you can find something to hook to. The some rubber washer go on, and a couple of wingnuts.. then the oem battery people can
'kiss-off' .

not a thing to hold to on this vehicle....... I also know about universal mountings..... on newer cars everything is a shoe horn fit to say the least!!!!
