I found some cheap pavers at a salvage yard recently, $0.99 each. I bought enough to make two courses for a fire pit. I just laid them on top of the ground, no digging, leveling, etc. It took 11 to make a circle so I bought 22. I could have done a more professional job, but that would have required a lot more work than I was interested in. If I had dug it, leveled it, put down sand, etc. it would have been a weekend project instead of a one hour project. The Mrs. seemed OK with doing it this way so I am good to go. It's good enough for my needs.

By the way, I moved the pavers from my truck to the pit area in my tractor bucket, so I think this qualifies as a TBN project.

Love it! Did you leave any space at the bottom to draw air in?

I did almost the same thing last fall. Works great.

Looks good but unless they are fire rated, you risk problems with cracking.
