Dallas_Lilly & BBSE - thanks for the heads-up and link to the filter analysis site. No more Fram filters for me from now on (promise!). I couldn't believe how cheaply  they are made. That aside, like I said, I spent $13 + for my Fram tractor filter and never thought it was "cheap". Maybe their odd ball sizes are manufactured better? I'll do an autopsy on the filter when I change it next (naturally with an OEM Kioti filter) and let you know. Y'all both have a good weekend.

Frams arnt common here cept from Walmart. I use Ford FL1A in in whatever it a Ford gas pickup. I use the Havoline version of the FL1Aoccasionally. Most of my parts are carquest so its the carquest equivalent. As far a pleats and bypass and all that I dont go over time or miles. I use Walmart 15w40 oil.
Remember I dont go over 100 tractor hours or 3000 road truck miles. If I were to try for say 10,000 hours I would use something synthetic and a filter with a lot of surface area.

Some peple just get totally overboard on filters and engine oil ! There are many many thousands of tractors still running today after 40 years or more...that have used filters that were WORSE than the cheapest things made today....and engine oil..that while "good" in its day...is no more than "dog wee-wee" compared to todays oils.

USe a "quality product" ( I DIDNT say the "best that $ can buy") and change it pre prescribed maintainence charts..and get over being paranoid!

I agree with this to a point. I have sent my wife to Wally world more than once for an oil change on our family sedan because it was CHEAP!! . However, I was thinking more in line of tractor maintenance. I do go overboard when I am working on my tractor. I just rebuilt the engine, I am switching to synthetic after break-in (I know that is debateable topic) and I will only use OEM or better filter. I plan on keeping the tractor a long time. My cars are going much sooner. I went by pepboys the other day and AC, Motorcraft and Purolator were all under $5.00. Fram was about $3.00. I think I'll go the extra 1 to 2 bucks. ;)

Im with ya!..yepper. Im intending on using Kubota filters BUT will have a single backup filter of ?? brand on hand in case of some emergency?? At the rate of usage..after my 50 hour drain and fill...I'll be lucky TIME-WISE to change oil etc..every THREE YEARS..

I too am going to syn oil..Rotella-T syn...5W-40...because I cant get a non-syn 10W-30 oil thats DIESEL rated for my B3030. I didnt want to use a 15W-40

What I'll probably do is about every 18 months or so...change OIL only...and the next time..just change FILTER only. That'll be about every 75 - 100 hours!!

Hey.. now that is a neat idea. Keep a cheap fram oil filter in a ziplock baggy but otherwise use the dealer oem fitlers. If you ever have a hole poked in an oil filter ( I think we have all been there at least once ).. you at least have something with which to screw ont he tractor.. add a quart of oil, and get er back up on the trailer.. or back to the barn, keeping the bearings intact..

yes a secondary system would be nice, catapellar makes the best lube oil system that i know of, it has two sets of filters, one set for normal use and secondary set when the others are in bypass, i work on an offshore drilling rig, and that is the way our emergency generator is set up. and also can change the oil filters and the fuel filters while it is running, fuel system is set up with primary and secondary filters also.

Exactly! A filter CAN ( no guts in it)is better than the big open "hole" with oil gushing out of it....lol

I've used Fram's for years. Now that I think I know better, I do not use them anymore. But, they are still the number one seller. I've never heard of an engine problem because of the filter. Are we all just being led by the nose into spending more of our cash? I'll admit I'm influenced by the hype and the claim that Fram is bad & cheap. Does the cardboard piece really make a difference?
Enough blabering, I'll shutup now.
