I picked up one of those harbor freight 49.99$ 12v electric winches a while back.. 6'/minute pull.. 6000# rolling load, 2000# drag.. etc Has 6' remote cord and battery clamp cord.. comes with a quick attach mount plat that slips over a trailer hitch ball or pintle / clevis hitch.

I wondered how good it was / if it worked. got to use it today.. helped a buddy pull his semi-flat tired 9n (2500#? )out of his barn with it... slow.. but worked fine!

I had been wondering about those - I get their flyers all the time and been wanting to get an affordable winch for use on my trailer when the need arose. Can't afford $300 + for one that might get used once a year or so. Let us know again after you've used it a few more times.

Harbor Freight is where I get all of my tools now. Prices can't be beat and they get the jobs done for me, but you have to know enough and have enough common sense to know if a particular tool that they have will hold up and get the job done for you. Examply: I purchased a 1/2 ", 10amp heavy duty, reversible, variable speed drill, for 30 dollars. I hooked it up to my light duty extension cord, when I got home to see if the cheap drill would work. To my atonishment, it wouldn't even run at all and figured right off the bat that the drill wasn't worth a dime. Then I read the little pamplet that came with the drill, and saw that it took a heavier duty extension cord to carry enough current to drive the 10 amp motor. Once I did that, the drill worked fine.

After I burned the clutch out on my 3/8" Black and decker cord drill, I went and got a 3/8", 3amp, 3000 max rpm, variable speed, reversible, keyless chuck, with tork settings from Harbor Freight for 15 dollars. Best 3/8" drill that I have ever had, and at 3000 rpm's, it will get the self drilling screws into my metal building with very little effort.

Now if you could get A Harbor Freight Store inside all the WalMart Super Centers, I would be very greatful. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I snagged one of those at an auction a few weeks back. I haven't got around to installing it yet. Plan is/was to mount it on a plate that I welded on the front of my trailer. I need one every now and then to drag implements on the trailer when I buy MORE auction goodies. After looking at it, I'm reconsidering buying something a bit heavier duty rated. (I've got an old Warn 8000LB winch SOMEWHERE in the shop. Just haven't seen it in a while. Time to clean out the shop I do believe!)

I bought one of those a while back. I am using it on a swinging boom on my log splitter to load large chunks of wood. Works great /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I don't think the wiring is heavy enough for much heavy useage, but that can always be changed out to heavier wire. Lifting a 100lb chunk of wood it only draws about 15 amps. But it is supposed to draw about 90 amps at full load.

I think I will pick up another one for a spare or for another project.

For 'fishing' excursions.. I put a spare 12v battery and the winch in the bed of the truck when I go to a show...in case I need to load/ help load a tractor / my tractor /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif.. etc

I bought one to use as a chute rotator on my 3ph snowblower.
No load involved but real nice when it is nasty out and you don't want to reach out from your nice, warm cab!!!!

I just bought the 8000# winch from Harbor Freight on sale for $299 and mounted it to the front of my trailer inside a box I got from TSC. Haven't had the chance to use it yet. I have run it in and out a few times. Its there when or if I need it. I often haul other dead vehicles to the scrap yard and will need the winch for that. Photos of it on the trailer are in the Mahindra section.
