The ROPS on the tractor I'm getting is the fold down type, but you're right, that could still be a recipe for disaster. I think it is a tad more than 7' with the ROPS up.

So maybe I'm going to need 12' 6x6s.

That was going to be my suggestion - yes yes yes on the higher roof! You will be very sorry if you leave it at 7 feet. Someday you will want to enclose the ends, and then you need a door frame, & the low roof gets even lower......

Otherwise your plan sounds fine. Taller roof tho!!!!!!!

N80 - I tried to erect a quick shelter for my tractor and stuck 8 posts in the ground and draped it with heavy duty fabric. I knew I'd be replacing it with a pole shed of some sort within a year. The next December I received the property taxes for my land and the value had increased by 10 grand. WHY? - I stuck the 8 posts in the ground making it a permanent structure in the assessors viewpoint and they assess by square footage. Not to dampen your project but just to let you know..... that for every action - there is usually a governmet reaction.

Excellent point. I'll have to look into that. I built a cabin and that had a huge effect on the taxes. Don't need another tax jump.

Its not the posts, its the tax assessment. Any permanent structure is considered an improvement. Any improvement increases the value of the property. The higher the property value, the higher the property taxes. The higher the taxes, the more money your local elected officials have at thier discretion to buy votes.

And the tax man always thinks your property is more valuable than it really is, of course. I had to go through an appeal to get my cabin valued at a reasonable price.

Carports are inexpensive, and sturdy too. Mine is 21/30 and cost 1700 installed on level ground (gravel). I had it built taller for ROPS and got it taller than it needed to be. A single carport would cost around 700 to 800 installed.

In a lot of areas, moveable structures aren't taxed as buildings. So it maybe worth your time to consider making this 'movable' buy building the thing on 6x6 skids across the bottom instead of putting them in the ground. That would let you use the shorter 6x6's as well.

I know that; but what I'm asking is how did they come up with a $10,000.oo valuation for 8 post and a cheep $12.oo plastic tarp?

Any permanent structure is considered an improvement: But just because it's an improvement that don't automatically make it worth $10,000.oo.

My county has a Min. value of 100 dollars per structure your county must have a 10000 dollar. Min.

MY county has my 8x16 storage building on the tax records as reale estate even tho it's on skids.
