cheapo ways to move dirt

200 feet; stick with the FEL.

That was what I was thinking, with loading and unloading and transporting, etc, I was thinking I would just stick the hydro in M, and be there before all of this got done.. just an opinion.. but thats mine too.

There is no such thing as a shortcut for moving dirt that is going to be faster, cheaper or easier then what's already been invented. Look at any jobsite and you'll see the same things over and over again. Dig it and put it on something with wheels to get it where you want it. The big variable is in how far you need to move it.

Carry as much as you have power to control it. Dirt scoops are cheap, but very time consuming and inefficient. For what you burn in fuel to move a single yard this way, it's cheaper to hire it out. The loader is alright for short distances and small jobs, but it's all wear and tear on the tractor. A trailer is very efficient if it dumps. The dump truck is still the best tool for the job.

I have three kids and three shovels. Works well and I stay well rested.

I have a large old lincoln hood that is reinforced in the front with angle iron and has a chain attached, I can get three full scoops on it and a fourth in the bucket, drag it where I want and pull the material off. I used it extensively to put wood chips down on my 2000' walking path, as a bonus the dragging levels the ground behind you...works great for firewood and boulders too.

If the distance is greater and the material has to be transported I would put a ball hitch on the 3 point and then use it as a lift to assist dumping the trailer. In fact that is what I am sometimes doing. I have a ball hitch on my box blade so I don't need to remove it when pulling the trailer.

Have seen pic's in another thread of another forum member who put the ball hitch on the FEL and was then able to pick up the tongue of the trailer as high as needed to totally dump the trailer. That technique could potentially help you move a LOT of dirt pretty quickly.

You could also use one of those cubic yard earth bags which cost about 50 bucks and can be hung on the loader or a boom pole -- dump fairly easily too -- just a thought

A real cheap way to move the dirt is to call the cops and tell them theres a dead body underground. They will come out and excavate it for you LOL.

You're a 'neighbour'! I have the very same problem so when you have figured it out, do you want to come over and repeat on my land?
