Thirty years ago or so we had a Fiat Spyder convertible sports car. I had some work done on the car and my wife was driving it that night. I was playing poker with friends that night and my wife calls the guy's house. I hear him say "You mean you had a flat tire?", then after a minute he hands the phone to me. The wife says "I was driving down the road and the tire fell off!" so I said "You mean you had a flat tire?". She replied, rather tersely, "NO, the wheel is lying in the middle of the road, it came off the car, and is lying in the middle of the road, you need to come here NOW!!!"
So I did. Believe it or not, she had found all five lug nuts laying together. I put the tire back on, followed her home, then went back to the card game.
Luckily she had noticed the car wan't driving right and had slowed down before the wheel came off. I don't think she ever drove it again.
