Just today I received this email. It appeared to come from eBay but it doesn't. Normally you can spot them looking for mis-spelled words (accesing) Now they are fishing for PowerSeller's passwords so they can sell more fictitious tractors or worse. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I get 3 to 5 scam emails every week supposedly from Ebay or PayPal.

I just pass them on to spoof@ebay.com
or
spoof@paypal.com

Scammers and spammers have just about destroyed email for all of us.

The only way we will stop spam is to NEVER buy anything from a spammer. Unfortunately, I know an idiot who says "But it was such a good deal" and buys from spammers. It's people like her that make spam profitable. Dumb, dumb, dumb!

Bill I have been playing with the eBay Account Guard Tool-bar myself. It let's you know when you have been redirected to a non-eBay site with a warning. It also automatically reports the site to eBay. I kinda like it, gives me a little peace of mind, I think that's good in today's world.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Check out this awesome deal on this tractor on ebay.

Item number: 3876646824

I have emailed ebay on over 20 tractors in the last 12 days. Ebay has usually removed the listings within a couple hours after I've emailed them. Some take a little longer.

2004 John Deer Model 4610 with E hydro automatic transmission. Buy it now for $5,000.

I wonder if that includes the JD bush hog it shows in the pictures?

EDIT: I just realized that is $5,000 CDN which is an even better deal. But somebody needs to tell him how to spell "Deere".

I spent 2 hours last enening with a buddy of mine. I was showing him how to pick out a lot of these fake auctions. Their English seems to be getting better. They are now stealing others IDs and putting thier own email address at the bottom of the page.

Great memory. I was pointing that out to him last night as well. The pictures I had seen before as well. But I could not locate the previous auction but could tell by the backgrounds that the pictures came from the same location. But had different sellers.

I have gotten several similar emails. Also from Paypal and Earthlink. About a year ago, maybe more, I got the email from Earthlink, looked very official and had a link to a website that looked like Earthlink's website. Of course they needed to verify my credit card info or my service would be terminated.

I filled it all in and sent it, then realization hit. After emailing earthlink and being assured it was not their email, I immediately called American Express and reported what happened and they cancelled that number and sent me a new card. Unbelievably, I got the card THE NEXT DAY!

I really felt like an idiot.

I got in the habit of following up on these inquiries that ask for personal information and started filling them in just to clog up the works. I use the name "Bill Bob Thornton" and all kinds of fictitious garbage.
