Hi purchased a ex demo JD3036e compact tractor at the end of last year , its only now that I am starting to use it.The manual says check engine oil on a regular basis, after much searching I have found the dip stick but it hidden behind the side panel , the manual hard back on on line gives no instruction how to carry out the task.I looked to me the only way you can get at it is to remove the side panel which appears to be bolted on in places. Is that correct for it would seem a very bad design fault. There is a black plastic cover below the main green side panel is that was not there you might get at it but if you remove the engine is open the grass etc entering the engine. One final point the machine does have a 305 loader which also restricts access.

My JD 4600 is a different and older model than yours. However, some of this may apply.

My dipstick is located behind the top of the side panel, but positioned such that I can pull it without unlatching or removing the panel. (Please don't be insulted by a very basic instruction here. I don't know how much, or how little you know.) With the engine off, pull the stick out and wipe it with a clean paper towel or rag. Replace the dipstick all the way to the bottom. Leave it there a couple of seconds, pull it again, then read the oil level.

My side panels have latches at the top that can be released, allowing the panels to swing out a bit from the bottom, even with the loader on. You may be able to do this to gain better access. I would be surprised if you really have to unlatch or remove panels to pull the dipstick. Most modern tractors are set up such that you have easy access for checking or adding oil.

Enjoy your new tractor!
