I e-mailed Chevron and asked what They had for a BX.

Attached is what they sent me.

I gave them the specs quoted in the manual (J1034,J814C),
They told me this meets J1034 and that J814C is only a publication.

ATSM D 3306 is a standard for Automotive light duty antifreeze, J 1034 is an SAE recommended practice for engine coolant concentrate, ethylene glycol based for use in light duty trucks or automobiles. J 814 is a report and not a specification. For a diesel engine I would recommend the Delo ELC it does meet the specifications of J 1034.

I have been using this coolant now for several years with great results. I use it in the premix 50/50. I use it in a fleet of 25 trucks and 50 reefer trailers. If you are switching from the old green to this you want to do a real good job of flushing out all the old green antifreeze as they do not mix. I have also switched over all of my personal equipment to this coolant.
In my fleet I have noticed a reduced repairs in the cooling system and feel that the biggest reason is the change in coolant, my mechanic's agree too.
I guess that is enough rambling on!!!!!

ASTM D 4985 is what you care about with a wiesel. It is phosphates and silicate free, which is good.

What about these?

GM 1899
GM 1825 including ASTM D 1384 (Glassware Corrosion), ASTM D 2570 (Simulated Service)
ASTM D 2809 (Cavitations Erosion - Aluminum Pumps) ASTM D 4340 (Hot Surface Aluminum Corrosion).



For flushing I would do this. You need to flush the old coolant out since it will have silicates in there and you can leave them in there for years. You will have green goo everywhere. Plus you can't mix ELC and normal coolant together.

Go to your local grocery store and buy "White Distilled Vinegar" and mix that 50/50 with some distilled water.

Fill the system with the 50/50 mix, run the bike until warm, let cool, drain and then run clear water through to wash out the vinegar.

It's the same idea as cleaning your coffee maker.

The vinegar is acidic enough to remove any scale or impurities, but not so harsh that it will harm your delicate seals and gaskets.
