Thanks for the info, I'll sit tight, My current 2006 6.0 tows great, but i'm getting 10-12 MPG empty. The chevy site doesn't give EPA MPG for the 6.0 or the duramax.
There are no numbers for the 6.0 or DMax because they are currently available only in trucks with GVWR over 8500, which are exempt from EPA fuel economy reporting.

My Duramax is the Silverado Classic, a 2007 with the 2006 body style. I chose it because it would have less restrictive EPA crap on it, like the regeneration function for the exhaust. Anyway, I am getting 15 to 16 MPG unloaded. My truck has just under 8000 miles on it. Everything I have read says that between 20K and 25K miles I should see an increase in mileage. Some are seeing around 18 to 19 MPG. It all depends of course on how much control you have over the right foot.

As I have said before My 2006 duramax with the 6 speed gets around 18 on everyday driving. If I do what is suggested and control that right foot I have seen 20 + on a flat surface interstate driving unloaded. One of the reasons that I traded my 05 duramax for an 06 is the 6 speed. I test drove an 06 when they came out. I checked the speed at 2000 rpms and the 06 was doing 70 I went back to my 05 and at 2000 rpms on the same road I was doing 60 miles an hour. I have 15,000 miles on my 06. I did start experienceing an increase in the fuel mileage on my 05 at 20,000

My 2006 has the 6.o/3.73 gears and 4 speed automatic. I noticed the new 2007s with the 6.0 2500HD come with a 6.0/3.72 and 6 speed. I wonder if the 6.0 makes a considerable difference. If so, the 2500HD may be the way to go. Anyone have the 6.0 with 6 speed? Once again, I know it's hard to good gas mielage and towing capacity. The truck will be used for towing infrequently, but when I do need to tow I don't want to be in trouble.

wifes denali has the 6.2 with 6 speed and does get better mileage then my 6.0 due to the trans, stands to reason that the 6.0 w/ 6 speed would do better.

workingallthetime,
What kind of gas mileage does your wife get with the six speed automatic. I've been trying to improve my MPG by not punching it. I try to keep the RPMs no higher than 2200 RPMs, even off the line. Kinda slow start, but I've gotta get better then 10MPG. There are alot deals out there on 2500HDs with the 6.0 and 6 speed. May have to take a look.

here was my experience with the deanli 6.2 and 6 speed. we drove it to a soccer game about 30 minutes away, i reset the average on the highway and watched it the entire way. The average was almost 19 for the trip and that was on a highway doing 70+ through some okie hills. A couple weeks later we took my truck (v-max 6.0 with DOD and 4 speed) the average was 15.3.
I am going to put exhaust on my truck in hopes of a little more power and better fuel econ. I did that to my 99 6.0 and picked up about 1.5 mpg which got me back up to about 13 in a 3/4 ton 4x4 w/ bfg all terrain ko's 285/65/16s. flow master was the way to go and im going that route again. As soon as hyper tech gets a program built for my truck i will go that route also. And then there is the lift for it but things got to wait.

sit on your 6.0 for a bit, i know you will find a sweet deal in early 08. GM just pulled ahead of the toy company so they will want to finish the year strong.

Your right about GM deals late in the next model year. I picked up my 2006 this February for $20000, It had a sticker of $32000. Hope to do that good this time.
