I would have bought that back from the insurance company and do a body swap. That 355hp in a 4,000-pound car would have been fun to drive. (y)
I sold it for what the insurance wanted for it, and sold it to a friend with way better body skills than me. It still lives, it had been hail damaged, hit in the rear by the vice principal at my daughters junior high school......the trees was the final straw. BUT I decided to get into tractor ownership after this. After all I had a LOT of revenge work to do on trees after all this.

Here is the damaged right into the A-pillar. And same tree hit my 2004 Chevy 1500 sitting right next to carport. It was a twofer......two fer one.

You did good to get that many miles out of it. Generally they fail at around 130k. At least you don't have the 8 speed so it will be a bit less than my 8 speed.

I suggest you go to your GM dealer and price a transmission there. It should come with a 50k mile warranty, good at any GM dealer in the country. There are a lot of good private shops out there but there are also a lot of dubs. You might decide it's cheaper in the long run to go with OEM.

Do Chevy dealers tell owners that the transmissions are "sealed for life" and don't need the fluid changed? I've run into that with other brands. It's technically true- the original fluid will last the life of the transmission. But that may be a significantly shorter life from what it could be if the fluid was changed.
I had to have it changed in my Colorado last winter because they "put the wrong fluid in at the factory". GM sent out a TSB on it but the repair was on my dime.

6 months later I was having more problems which turned out to be a faulty wiring harness, resulting in them going into the transmission again. GM had a TSB out for that also and even paid for the repair bills on the Denaliis... the rest of us were left to pay for it ourselves.

The good news is that my tranny fluid was changed twice before the truck turned 80k miles. 🙄

Transmission shops have raised and fed many family's over the GM 4L60E transmissions and I'm a GM man, I own one 1997 GMC K-1500 that is on it's 3rd 4L60E transmission and it just rolled over 100k miles, not a shining moment for GM in my opinion.

I have an 02 1/2 ton with 4L60E with 450,000 miles on original engine and trans. Must be lucky. I also have an 01 1/2 ton with 110,000 miles. Jury is still out on this one. So far so good.

Congratulations, that is a lot of miles on any motor and transmission IMO it's especially extrordinary on a 4L60E, I believe you set the record. If the motor in your 02 is the 5.3 I am not as shocked , them and the cast iron block 6.0 motors are known to run forever.
