I have a question that's been bugging for a while. I have 05 with the Z-71 off road package which includes skid plates. They protect the engine and transmission but NOT the gas tank? Any ideas why. All the SUV's we have or had cover all 3. Can't get a good answer. Any help here?

I've had 3 of the Z-71's and they are a great off road truck!!

I don't know the reason they do that, but maybe it has something to do with the wheel base, or the angle during ingress /digress (sp) . In other words maybe they (GM) feel the tank would be clear of danger since it is to the rear and likely on the rise since the wheel base is short.

I know I have hit the skid plates hunting in rough terrain in Colorado and West Texas, but have never had tank, or the spare tire for that matte,r even get much of a scratch.
