That is a very nice chicken tractor you built. I have seen simple, cage designs in use before but never one with a little hen house built right in there. What are the dimensions and how many birds do you put in there?
Thanks. It's about 4' wide by 10' or 11' long and 6' high at the peak. It holds 5 chickens. Was supposed to be 5 hens, but it turned out to be 4 hens and a rooster. He's really too big for the thing and he's the size of 2 hens but they still all squeeze into the house at night.
Nice chick on your kubota!![]()
What I really like is your chicken coop. That looks like something I would like to build. Did you like the way it turned out? any changes you might want to do?
I saw one of these at a Washington State University Cooperative Extension raffle so I modeled mine after theirs. I think mine is bigger. They used OSB for the house but I used hardi board (cement board). I figured it would withstand the chicken poop better and last longer. Plus, I had a bunch of it lying around left over from a wood-shed project. But it also made the thing a lot heavier. Heavier than I would like. Rotating the wheels down to lift the rear off the ground is a chore and I will have to devise a lever system with both wheels on one axle to save my back. Also, I'm thinking of adding another roosting box on the side of the house. There's one on the back which you can see in the photo below. It took me a couple of months over the winter to build it but that was only working on it a couple of hours on the weekends.
