Just do not name them, i do name the cows...t bone, sir, loin, booger, you get the idea.

We really only have 2 of ours named, Crooked Neck and Lucky the rooster. We call him Lucky because out of all those roosters, he is the one that didn't get put in the freezer, plus, he has 12 girlfriends!

Our 3 future cows are T-bone, Porter and Stew! Not sure I would want to eat a booger!

Yep :D I named ours Finger Lickin' Good, Extra Crispy, Original Recipie, Soup, etc. Kids, of course are less practical, but their favorite rooster Foghorn still got rave reviews once out of the crock pot.

Yeah, not sure I will name ours, maybe some of the hens and if we get one buff orp rooster, hopefully, we may keep and name him. I like finger lickin. One of my 3.5 year old son's favorite words is delicious, may have to use that as a name.

Well it appears I have some more convincing to do. My wife isn't interested in having chickens in the garage while in the brooder, and my parents, whom I share the land with, aren't interested in having chickens out there right now.

While I think more about what I want to do I will be learning more and trying to convince them. At the very least this will give me more opportunity to learn all I possibly can about having chickens

What??? say it isn't so!

Have you considered getting the chicks a little later to avoid brooding in the garage? that's part of the reason we're waiting till April.

And can't you convince your parents that they will be well kept and confined?

I'm sure you've approached it from all angles. Sorry to hear it isn't going to work out this year for you. I promise to post my adventure on my thread, so you should learn quite a bit from my mistakes. :D

Well, Tony if need be I can live vicariously through your posts, although I haven't given up just yet. I am going to try from as many angles as possible and waiting until later in the summer is always an option, it just means egg production will start later. I will keep you updated.

I was going to pen them in either a permanent pen, a tractor, or a combo of both. We have too many predators to let them roam. I was looking into this predator light and putting up a motion light. I have also heard that having a dog's scent around the pen helps keep the predators away.

This is that light

I sorta had the same problem with chickens. My wife is dead set agains them and of course, none of us eat eggs either.

Turkeys, on the other hand, have an appeal to her since we'll be letting them escape and hopefully adding to the very small population that already exists. We'll get to see them on a daily basis, we love the sounds they make and we think it will be great for the kids.

Now that I have an area staked out for the fence (quarter acre), I'm more and more sure that I'm going to do it.

I look forward to the pictures Eddie. How many turkeys are you going to start out with with a fenced in area of a quarter acre?

My wife is fine with chickens as long as they aren't in our garage, shes fine with them out at our "farm". And right now I am not out there enough to brood them there, plus it is too cold. Maybe if I wait til later spring, I can brood them out there and then I only need to convince my parents it won't inconvenience them at all.

I live to fight another day.
