Alcohol will lower the freezing point. Plus, your chickens will be more laid back.............

Holy smokes!!! Why not antifreeze??

How about a wind proof, wide metal box that cannot be turned over with a small five or ten cent "tea light" candle attached firmly inside and a metal waterer that clips onto the top?

Obviously you would need to keep it far away from all possible combustibles, and you might have a problem with the water getting too hot for the chickens to drink.

I guess if it was me I would kill and eat the chickens and then buy the eggs before I would spend tons of money to put in a solar powered water heater.

I only have 2 chickens right now. They are my daughters pets. I am not allowed to kill anything we own. Isn't that ridiculous?

2 chickens is all ?? !! Watering them once a day would suffice, and a quart of water would be enough. If the coop is too far away from the house, build a small crate and move them closer to the house until spring. Take a coffee can out to the coop and put hot water in,it will not freeze that quick,I sure wouldn't buy a water heater for 2 chickens, just my opimion.
How far are you having to walk ??

Oh, now I understand. I guess I was thinking of my old days when we had around 1800 hens and 200 roosters. Water freezing was always a problem and I spent a bunch of money on water line heaters, in tank heaters and hot lamps. 2000 chickens will help keep the water from freezing so just increase your flock!

Aw guys, I just thought it would be cool to have a solar water heater I could brag about.
I'll walk. And yes. they are my daughter's AND wife's pets so I can't kill em and eat em.
