Chimney repair

Assuming only one tile is broken, I vote man lift rental, replace the bad tile, and mortar in it.

In one sense, you have it easy: the chimney is on the end of the house and fairly accessible.

Mine is in the middle ... ;)

Did a company cut the tree down? Or your buddy? Why I ask is, if a company cut the tree, maybe you can get them to pay someone to do it for you. Just a thought, Jon
Yes, a company cut the tree down.
But where I'm at companies are scarce, it's a two hour truck roll, and it's difficult to even get someone to look at a job in this economy. And then often they do a poor job if you can't monitor the results. It took months to get the trees cut.

Perhaps many responders did not read:
So I was thinking for a quick easy patch I'd put some hardware cloth down then spray a crown patch using some "Great Stuff" foam insulation to seal it up and prevent water and squirrels entering.

I'm pretty sure that could have been accomplished with 1 trip up the ladder carrying foam, hardware cloth, tin snips, wipes. All very lightweight.

So I made it in two trips with concrete patch.

Not the best job but it should hold for a couple of years. And I had already started the long painful process of getting a reliable roofing contractor that will let me monitor his work w/ a drone.
