Hi everyone -

Has anyone installed the attached picture on their wood burner chimney pipe? Here is a link for it on amazon:

Amazon.com: Metal-Fab Roof Support with Trim - 8 Inch: Home & Kitchen

It seems to be the right connection point for going from single wall to triple wall when going through the ceiling (which is what i'm doing in the barn). The installation instructions show a nailing flange around the box but the unit doesn't have it. Without a flange, the only option I can come up with is to screw through the box into some framing.

I've got a call into the manufacturer (Metal-Fab) but thought I'd try my luck here to.

thanks!

I believe that box has two purposes.

1. To transisiton from single to double or triple as you mentioned when going through a roof or ceiling.
2. Keeps the tripple pipe spaced properly away from combustibles.

There is one in my basement just above my wood stove. I believe they mounted it by boxing in between the joists with 2X material and then screwing through the flat sides from the inside out into the boxing material. I really didn't watch them do it. There was no nailing flange that I remember. I framed from the outside of the box up to the ceiling in the first floor using that box as a spacing guide. It worked quite well.

My home owner's insurance would not allow me to install the wood burner or chimney myself. They required signatures and documentation from the certified installer. However, I was allowed to box it in myself as long as I followed the recommended spacing from the manufacturer. You might want to check that kind of stuff with your own insurance company, county/city codes, etc....
