I have read that they are saying that face masks are not useful. But here is the thing when I see pictures of infectious disease teams they are all wearing face masks. May be a moot point anyway as the local newspaper says face masks of any sort are sold out here and i noticed they are mostly sold out on Amazon. As for the stock market. I thought it was pretty over heated before any of this pandemic stuff came along so a correction was likely anyway. Looks like face mask makers and hand sanitizer and vaccine makers could be plays.

Chris

What I've read is the mask contains your own sneeze droplets, so it reduces risk to others. But additionally you need eye protection to protect you from others' sneezes.

The mask stuf is more involved than that.

There are essentially two categories; those that filter virus very well [A95], and regular masks that dont. The A95 require more effort to breathe thru. They are are worn by the infectious disease teams who take rest periods and change their mask, never re donning the previous. It would be very difficult to wear an A95 for general protection on the street or at work.

. . . The regular masks, as said, are more to offer courtesy protection to others around you. Comparatively they filter poorly but you can breathe pretty easy. They can be valuable tho, to greatly reduce outgoing contamination from the wearer. -- Real GOOD. ... The rub is for the well wearer of a mask who doesnt observe protective equipment protocols. - They may not make the connection that the outside of a filter accumulates a concentration of contaminants of all kinds. - They may use the same mask all day, take it on and off, touch the outside of the mask  over and over - - and then maybe rub their eye. If theyve been near Corona they may have a concentration great enuf to infect themselves.

Hard to define these areas, and at what point in the morbidity curve (ie # sick) where travel to a given area would make you liable.

No time like the present to start before it is too late. There should be more restricted optional travel to areas as they become a risk. Just as the travel restrictions were now expanded to include Iran. The early travel restricions put in place by the US is why we in the US do not have more cases at this time given the US is the number 1 travel destination in the world in my opinion. Proves my point.

God help us if Mexico becomes an issue (or already is and do not recognize it) given the border.
