Yes, I wonder how hard it is to pull too ? Same as why does a 150hp outboard have a provision for pull starting ? A friend of mine who is a large guy and heavy equipment mechanic tried to pull start his 150 hp johnson OB once, it threw him out of the boat ! Was good entertainment for the others on the boat /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I wonder, does the little diesel have compression release ?

YES, THERE ARE COMPRESSION RELEASE LEVERS ON THE 4.5 HP AND 10 HP DIESELS. USUALLY STARTS ON THE FIRST OR SECOND PULL. I HAVE A LOMBARDINI DIESEL THAT HAS A VERTICAL SHAFT FOR ANOTHER PROJECT, AND IT'S A PULL START WITH NO COMP. RELEASE.... IT'S A BEAR TO PULL, THANK GOD IT STARTS ON THE FIRST PULL(MOST TIMES).
COMPARING THE QUALITY OF THESE CHINESE ENGINES,TO MY OTHERS(RUGGERINI,DEUTZ AND LOMBARDINI) THEY SEEM VERY CLOSE TO THE WORKMANSHIP, AT A HUGE DISCOUNT...I AM TRYING TO ATTACH A PIC BUT THE SITE SAID I CAN ONLY PUT 100,000 BYTES TO THE ATTACHMENT. I AM PROBABLY DOING SOMETHING WRONG...RICK

Just a curious question.
Are these engines single or 2 cylinder (10hp), air or liquid cooled?

Single cilinder engines are easy to start, if you follow procedure: Crank it in opposite way to normal run, up to upper dead point, roll a rope, pull once - and you'll see PUFF, PUFF with lot of smoke ... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Resize them using PIXresizer
Free download and works great. Resize them to under 100K and you'll be able to post them

Yeah, those Nikki carbs suck. The guys on the assembly line don't like them either. They are a bit touchy when it comes to bumping them during assembly. I "know" /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif someone that works at Briggs. No one can tell you why Briggs uses them either, because after shipping them from China they cost more than the U.S.A. ones they use on other engines.
