A piston-type travel motor is what is used in HST tractors. In branded (and large Chinese) excavators, the piston motor drives a planetary gearset, which turns the drive sprocket. Both are in the housing you see that surrounds the sprocket. It is possible to drive the sprocket directly with a piston-type motor, but I don't think anyone does that.It now mentions a piston travel motor. What exactly is that? I’m hoping it is planetary travel motors. I’m concerned about freewheeling downhill.
Yesterday, the Typhon website mentioned something about a plunger pump.![]()
On branded excavators, the travel motors usually have a 2-position swash plate piston motor, electrically-controlled, and a friction brake.
I suspect Typhon's "plunger" is a piston.
