Just wait though,
someday, we'll export China a Wall-Mart store or two, then we can sell them their own crap back!! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

( You mean I'm not the only one who sees that? Unlike China, Japan knows we are important to thier economy. Even more scary is that China has the natural resources and cheap labor to sink us financially while we pay to build their manufacturing base.)

Jstpssng,
I doubt if we could ever start a "grassroots" effort to leverage - say - Wal-Mart to offer more domestically producted products. We've all gotten to used to getting this or that for too cheap.
We buy something, because it "looks" like it could do the job, so we try it. Sure enough, it makes it through the job shining, has paid for itself and is just about put away before we even look anymore at "where was this thing made"? Most of us just want the project over.
But, if the tools cost two to three times as much, then the project itself is in danger of not even beining started.
We seem to stuck to this "imported" trend.
How many ZXY tractors would ABC sell if they sold their American made 25HP tractor at $40K? Not too many. So, you sell less iron, so you get less R&D (which makes it hard to compete with the almost blank check R&D brands), etc, etc etc.
Vicious cycle.
You know, growing up we always heard Dad say things like, "of course this is a good brand, they helped put us on the moon". These days even the Rock of Gibralter companies (read Fortune 500) and our gov't, military etc are all outsourcing abroad. How do we stop this divebomb? All the companies are sending out for all sorts of stuff from all over the globe.
I recently called talked to Dell support. The person I talked to had such poor English. He was very obviously of Indian or Asian descent. I believe I was on the phone three times as long trying to dicipher and having to repeat again and again. Funny thing is, I know Dell is also from Texas, and We have plenty of unemployed people here that can type, talk on the phone, and read from a script while interviewing a client. Who knows what the answer is.

Good post, however we must all do our little part & avoid buying products made in communist countries. My Father who just passed away warned us 10 yrs. ago that someday china would bury the US. economically. Im beginning to see that he was right. He owned a large manufacturing plant in Portland Oregon since WW2, and he always gave good advice & predictions about the economy & world markets. I try to avoid chinese products as much as possible, I even quit selling chinese chippers on our lot. If we all do our part we can make a big difference
Just wait until chinese cars arrive here,I heard they are in the works !! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I'm not anti-import by any means; I have a Japanese tractor after all. And one doesn't have to look beyond this forum to find people who love their Chinese tractors. Yet it seems too many people would rather spend $50 three times on junk than $75 once on a decent product; this is the mentality which irks me as it makes it difficult for a decent product to survive. (Care to bet how long before Craftsman wrench factories move overseas?)

A WalMart in Bejeing? That'sone way to get their junk out of this country.

At the Sams Club store next to the Wal-Mart Super store in Tuscaloosa they have a John Deere tractor sitting outside and an ATV and a lawn mower inside. I think they're from the local dealer.

Seems about 20 years ago all we heard about was how Japan was buying up America and how we were in trouble from the Japanese taking over. Now they make their cars at plants here, and it's China and India we're worried about.

If I'm spending my money, I'm gonna find the best deal for the dollar to do what I need to get done. Walmart does an excellent job of offering me the best price on low end products that satisfy that need. If I need a $40 dollar socket, then I know where to get one of those too, but most of my cheap stuff has done a pretty good job on what I have.

As to the original post about tractors at Walmart, I've heard they are working on car dealerships in their experimental stores. Also lumber and housing supplies.

Ten years from now I wouldn't be suprised if Walmart becomes a total shoping destination that provides everything. Right now I have a brand new Super Walmart right next to a new Lowes. The new Lowes is 50,000 square feet larger than the other ones.

All the big stores are getting bigger and offering more and more stuff. Not just Walmart.

Eddie no offense but let me throw out a scenario for you let's say you build your trailer park and staff it with local labor and have to charge say $30/ night to break even now your neighbor gets to use labor provided by the local jail and can charge $10/ night to break even would you call that free trade? Now this may be stretching it a bit but that in a sense is what the US manufacturers face trying to compete with China. The difference between Japan and China is that Japan was a free society with laws similar to ours so they competed on the merits of hard work and brain power ( Although the government played the currency manipulation game for a long time to keep the Yen undervalued) so eventually their wages did increase to a similar level as ours.

Now if wallmart would sell a nice 10hp diesel engine I would have a reason to actually go into a wall mart. With the way wallmart brings the price down $2000 for farmpro might not be a bad idea. Bring the price down to a throwaway price like they do everything else, I could live with that.

Yep,
We certainly need the next YUGO here now! $15-20K for a new car is getting to be way too much for the average illegal alien to afford! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Maybe they could do something useful and import some Cheap insurance! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

No doubt that is just advertising for the local JD dealer. I'll also bet Sam's gets a cut some way for it to be there.
