Chipmunks - Good or Bad?

 / Chipmunks - Good or Bad? #21
I guess the answer to "Good or Bad?" depends on the answer to the following question:

What starts outside my bedroom window at 5:45am, and goes: "Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip" every bleedin' second until I feel like I'm in a "Chinese-water-drop-on-my-forehead-torture-chamber" and I go nuts and jump out of bed and yell out the window and it stops - until I get back into bed and it starts:
"Chip Chip Chip ....." /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Are rat traps larger than mouse traps? Never had to buy any before.

Yep Garry. Rat traps are much, much larger than mouse traps. They will certainly kill a chipmunk. They slice mice in two or behead them depending on where the mice are when caught by the spring lever.

These critters may look cute but once they establish a nest, it becomes very difficult getting rid of them or their offspring. And if they ever get in your house where you have valued belongings, they do a real number destroying and chewing away at your prized possessions. I learned this way to get over the 'cutsie' attraction to them.

Bill,

I wish I knew a way that I could guarantee that they'd just go to the one neighbor's yard! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I may have to take my chances, although while I was home for lunch, I discussed it with wifey and she doesn't seem quite as upset about using the traps as I thought - as long as I'm the one that takes care of the....er....."unloading" of the trap! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Paul,

I think you're talking about a slingshot, right? If you are, I think I'll pass on that method. The last time I used a slingshot was on a Boy Scout outing when I was a Scoutmaster. The boys were having some target practice with some slingshots that they'd brought along. I didn't like the way they were horsing around with them, so I was going to demonstrate the proper use of a slingshot. I ended up demonstrating first aid techniques on my hand! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Chris,

So you're telling me that I should Yell at the chipmunks, huh? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I know, I know! I just thought it was kind of funny! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Bob,

Thanks again. I think this may be the argument that I can use to get the wife over the idea of using the traps. I think I'll try those first.

And thanks to EVERYONE that offered a suggestion. They were not only informative, but entertaining as well. And with the information I gained here, I'll know exactly how to deal with these things once we get out in the country. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The Manx cat would not be the one who needs to be worried about the dog. It is the other way around. Our dog got the idea that he did not like "Stumpy" the bobtail Manx cat and made the mistake of chasing after him. Have you ever seen a dog being chased by a cat???? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif It was hillarious! The cat attacked me once, jumped on my leg and bit in for taking the newspaper to its brother "Grumpy". /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif That was all straightened out by a MAJOR percussion adjustment. Once the percussion adjustments are made they fall right into order. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'm afraid if a cat attacked me I'd have to cut it's tail off a little higher up .... right behind it's ears! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Nope My partner used to actually tap a baby bottle niple over the end of his 22.
He swore by it...Me, I'm not all that fond of the idea of something over the barrel of any weapon... that was not made to go there by some one with better smithy skills than me. Wich is cleaning and shooting them...

Had a tabby cat named DOG as a kid and there wasn't dog in the neighbor hood that would come into the yard if he was in sight....So yep I' ve seen a cat chase a dog or 2.... Funny though he always stopped at the road... Kinda like he was smirking at the dog and showing off... or maybe he was to good to chase some ol dog...
