What would be the best chipper schredder for a 30 to 40 pto HP?? For the best bang for the buck..

I got a used Jinma 6" on CL for $900 so far it has done a pretty good job. I did buy new blades for it all three were $198, but it eats up 3-4" branches without missing a beat.

Wallenstein BX32 or 42.

I just went through a chipper search myself a bit ago and ended up with the wallenstein bx42 for my 29hp tractor. It should work on the smaller tractor asked about as well as the larger one, though a larger tractor may be able to use the wallenstein bx62 (6"). The reason I went with the wallenstein was that it had a great reputation, is super simple (direct drive, opens right up for easy blade access). The other main thing is that it has a 4x10" chute opening, which allows you to chip trees up to 4" even if they have branches and is great for brushy material. Mine doesn't have the hydro feed, but sucks stuff in so its self feeding in most situations, the only time I have to push is with a lot of brush. Due to the large opening I almost never have to trim something to get the branches to get in. I got mine lightly used for a great price. I've used mine for probably 20+ hours in the last few months and its been flawless. I would make sure to get a newer model with the twig breaker as it apparently makes a big difference for possible clogs (I haven't had any).

Whats the cost of these??

Woodwardcrossings.com had the best published prices i found. Local dealers had them for about 3100 new. Used they do really hold their value, but do to recent price increases used are usually around 2-2.5k in good condition.

I was really impressed with the Wallenstein bx42 and almost bought one, but a really nice used Patu came up on Craigs List for under half the cost of the Wally, so I got tha instead. The Wally's 4x10 inlet is a game changer if any of your tree limbs are twisty or have a lot of stems coming out a big angles from the main branch. I think it's also direct drive, which I like on the Patu.

I also recommend the Wallenstein BX 42 - Great machine, very little maintenance, no belts -direct drive.
The 4 x 10 inch opening really helps with feeding branches with crooks or Y's
