I've seen some chrome pipes that didn't turn blue. I looked at several at tractor shows and found they use a pipe inside the chrome pipe so it has an air space and won't get hot enough to turn the chrome pipe blue. You did a nice job on what you have and just thought I'd pass this along. Also you can buy polished stainless steel pipe.

Your respons at #17 answers my question thanks. I also understand the Harley connection. Never owned a bike myself, but I do like the look of those Harleys.

Pipe looks good.

When it comes to smoothing welds, its hard to beat flap wheels, they contour to the metal being shaped where ridgid stone wheels gouge.

Will have to get myself a couple of those wheels...just working with a stone wheel right now, that looks like it would work great for the touch-up/finishing stage...

Same concept on many motorcycle exhausts. The pipes may be chrome, but they also have a chrome heat shield covering them, so that you don't see it when the chrome on the pipes turns blue.

THeyre 2x the price, but 4x as good as the old stones. They cut really fast, smooth and cool. You can make a weld disappear with good technique on a flap wheel

Those flap wheels, some call them Tiger Paws, can be bought in several different grits. 80 grit will cut as well as a solid carborundum wheel. They are expensive but cant be beat for smoothing a surface without leaving all the scratch marks like a solid disc. I pick up one or two everytime I go to Harbor Freight. They arent quiet as good as a Dewalt brand but at half the price, I can live with a little less life span.
