Chupacabra found?

/ Chupacabra found? #22
The biologist thought this animal is from the canine family...I have never seen any canine that could manipulate it's front paws like this thing.

Funny looking creature. Wonder what it is???

Maybe it is a chupacabra?:)

Oh, that's just one of our jackoons. It's the mix of a jackrabbit and a raccoon. And yes it does have the mange.

Someone said it might be a Coatimundi with mange. I could maybe buy that, I don't know much about them, but it sure aint no dog like animal.

A Coati in Texas? Haven't heard of that before, but anything is possible. I know they are found in New Mexico. Then there is the variety in Brazil, and other parts of South America, but it would take a hike for one of them to get here!

I looked at several Coatimundi images and tried to imagine one without hair, but two things stand out.. The tail on the suspect animal is too short, and the ears are way too long and pointed. A Coati's ears are much smaller and rounded.. Unless there are more varieties of Coati. I don't know what that thing they have in that cage is. And that wildlife "expert" doesn't either.

Just about anything is possible with exotics. Enough people keep exotic pets, including coati, that it's fairly common to have such animals escape or be turned loose. In this case though I really do think it is a raccoon with a form of mange, or less likely alopecia.

Edit: FYI apparently coati are native to Texas - http://www.nsrl.ttu.edu/tmot1/nasunari.htm. Although I still think the animal in ques. is a raccoon.

The wildlife "expert" that says that is a canine is what is know in scientific terms as a "moron".
I don't know what that thing is, but I sure know it is no canine. Nor is it a feline. It is something else.

No dog or cat eats with it's hands. It sits and moves around like a hairless raccoon.

thanks, bcp, for the new link.

I watched video. Motion showed many coon like features, long tail, clever hands.... now gone...kinda like a yeti...

Maybe it is a raccoon without hair. The hands look right, and the tail is the right length. I suppose the ears could look longer because there is no fur around them.. so yeah raccoon could be a likely candidate. If that is a raccoon... that is one sorry looking raccoon.

Here is how we can find out for sure:
I have quite a few raccoon's around here. Who wants to come over and help hold one down while I shave it?
Be sure to bring some good thick gloves.:rotfl:
