Cigars! Who out there likes them?

That's why I like the G y V's when I'm working. You don't feel bad when you chew 'em up and toss 'em (or lean over something and break the three that are in your shirt pocket). At 20 bucks for 50 miniatures, you get a decent smoke and don't choke over the price. When my supplier from the Cayman is waiting on a shipment, or if I don't want to spend the big bucks and want a good quality cigar, I deal with Thompson's out of Tampa. Every price range, size and type and they run some really great specials that allow you to sample different brands. Too be honest, I've been weaning myself away from the pricey Cayman imports. I'm begining th think the legend of the fantastic Cubans hand rolled on the thighs of virgins is becoming just that...a legend. I've gotten better draw, consistancy and don't have to keep wetting the wrapper back down so you don't set yourself on fire from the manufactured brands either from Tampa or the D.R. over the Cohiba and Monte "imports". Maybe that's why Castro is still so pissed at us...he can't get a good wrapped cigar anymore over there.

I really like the Ashtons as well. Cabinet #3 is an all time favorite and I have found some good box prices on the web for them too. Have you tried the Ashton VSG line yet? Now there is a cigar that will knock you down if you aren't expecting it. Tad pricey but a really good special occaision cigar. Ashton #3 with coffee and the Sunday paper on a nice morning outside is something special as well.

Never been a big port fan but it is far and away considered the best combination by a lot of people. I like a nice dark rum on the rocks myself. Found a nice one from Guatamala that is even better than the Cuban rum I tried.

Actually I have been building an inventory of nice cigars in anticipation of retirement and having to cut expenses until we got used to a reduced income. A couple of years ago I took an entertainment cabinet and converted it to a cabinet humidor. Pretty easy actually. Lined it with Honduran Mahogony and put in spanish cedar shelving. Added a humidifier, some weather stripping and bingo. Room for close to 80 boxes. The inventory build-up began then and has continued until a few weeks ago when i think I have finally reached capacity. Now all of the bozes aren't filled, but I like keeping them in the original box since I have the room. So I will not suffer on the good cigar front for a good long time unless I go nuts. I usually have 2 a day..1 every day cigar and 1 nice.

Rocky.. I can't say enough bad things about Thompsons. Please be careful dealing with them. I have read more horror stories about their customer service than any other (maybe all other combined) cigar retailer out there. Lots of bait and switch, tricking people into their monthly club, blah, blah, blah. If yo want a short list of really good inexpensive mail order places e-mail me and I'll be happy to send you a list.

I concur on the rolled by a virgin on her thigh. More like rolled by her little brother on his forehead. If Castro was really smart he would outsource all his rolling to the Domenican Rep. I don't have near the problem with cigars from there, or central America for that matter.

That's interesting to know about Thopmson's. I've ordered around four time with no problems, and a guy here at work orders on a regular basis with no problem. I didn't like that "club" idea myself, I don't like getting locked into something that could turn into a pissin match. Maybe we've been the two lucky ones. I will email you for the other mail order places. From your other posts I see you're adding a great stash there. Reminds me of the story where the guy buys and insures a dozen or so very rare cigars at an outrage price, like 25 grand or something, sits back and fires 'em up. Enjoys his smokes then turns it in to the insurance that they went up in flames. The insurance had to pay. The guy thought he was real cool getting 25 k worth of cigars, insuring them as property (included fire), enjoying them, then getting all his money back when they burned up. It worked well until the insurance company got pissed because not only did the insured property get burned, but so did they. They turned around, gave the guy his check then had him arrested and charged with arson for torching his insured property. As much as I dislike insurance companies and lawyers...gotta hand it to those boys.

Oddly enough I really don't like the good cigars. When I was a teenager we used to smoke "Backwoods" (among other things). Then a couple of years ago I was playing cards and one of the guys brought some. They really tasted good, and that's what I smoke now. I also like Swisher Sweets as a change.

A couple of years ago I was in Vancouver and I was planning on trying some Cubans. A little too pricey for me, so I never did.
