City or County... Where do you Tractor?

/ City or County... Where do you Tractor? #71
One acre, four miles out into the county, used to be all farm land but when the sell off bug bit everybody scratched the itch. Still much nicer than being in town, they are however starting to talk of making city water and waste hookup available out here, hopefully people will be able to resist the urge to go that way.

Water and sewer are the first steps toward annexation.

County, 10 miles to nearest town.

Hate going into town, it痴 a plugged up, overpopulated mess.

200 acres in Tuscaloosa county, Alabama. 37 acres pasture, rest is 2 homes, barns and trees. But we are on a city of Tuscaloosa owned lake and they control all building 1 mile of their lake. My horses can't drink water from their lake. If you pump water out of their lake you must pay yearly permit. They claim everything from water's edge to 10 feet. Anything within 100 feet of their lake must be surveyed to make sure you are not on their property. They also claim everything to 10 feet past the flood level. Part of the property tax on my land goes to the city. I get no services from the city and no vote, because I don't live in the city. All stores within 1 mile of this lake must collect city sales tax. But no police protection. My MIL got $90.50 an acre for the 100 acres in pasture that the lake covered. Her neighbor got over $2,000 an acre for her land. Politics. They want us to subdivide our land to put more houses on and collect more property tax. (BEST USE) And they may win some day.
People moving "out in the country" too much. They want to live in the country, but they bring their city ways with them. The zoning, the permits, the taxes and the city control, but no vote. I leave a 50 to 100 foot buffer along the lake and highway in trees and brush. All gates are locked or we have people coming in to look at buying a lot. Not for sale.

That does suck. I have a 20 acre mostly treed section that i live on and across the street i have 10 acre horse pasture that i purchased only because the person wanting to buy it wanted to build a motocross track there. I knew the owner and offered cash, 3 day escrow. 27 years ago it was 10 acre minimums here....now its 5 and people are pressing to subdivide those into 1 acre plots. It truly sucks. Developer from seattle tried to develop a 1,000 acre piece of land and wanted to put in 3,000 homes, some commercial and a sewer plant. Needless to say the locals rioted. Thankfully city commissioners relented and refused it, but now theres a lawsuit started to try and force it thru. It will be tied up for years. I truly hate developers......especially ones from out of state that dont care what devastation they leave behind.

mred2, wow. I lived in a rival SEC college town for several years. Very progressive community, ha. Sidewalks to nowhere, bicycle lanes, parks where no one would go after dark if they valued their life.

But you do have great football. Go Bama.

Water and sewer are the first steps toward annexation.

that is the concern that we have, people don't realize what they would giving up if the city did annex this area.Bad enough that we are a little berg with our own marking signs and name but must use city name as address.
That is what you get for being so small a community that the one stop is your defining feature.

Yep... nice having your own forklift/boom and makes me popular with my city neighbors.

The Deere 110 backhoe has unloaded engines, air compressors and a very heavy DeWalt cast iron radial saw for friends...

If you want "friends", get a log loader. Oh my, people think you have a crane then, and need it for all kinds of things. Setting rafters is a common request...

Live in the city...tractor in the country. I'm at the age I pay someone to mow/work my yard at home so I can then go mow/work the land I own in the country!
