200 acres in Tuscaloosa county, Alabama. 37 acres pasture, rest is 2 homes, barns and trees. But we are on a city of Tuscaloosa owned lake and they control all building 1 mile of their lake. My horses can't drink water from their lake. If you pump water out of their lake you must pay yearly permit. They claim everything from water's edge to 10 feet. Anything within 100 feet of their lake must be surveyed to make sure you are not on their property. They also claim everything to 10 feet past the flood level. Part of the property tax on my land goes to the city. I get no services from the city and no vote, because I don't live in the city. All stores within 1 mile of this lake must collect city sales tax. But no police protection. My MIL got $90.50 an acre for the 100 acres in pasture that the lake covered. Her neighbor got over $2,000 an acre for her land. Politics. They want us to subdivide our land to put more houses on and collect more property tax. (BEST USE) And they may win some day.
People moving "out in the country" too much. They want to live in the country, but they bring their city ways with them. The zoning, the permits, the taxes and the city control, but no vote. I leave a 50 to 100 foot buffer along the lake and highway in trees and brush. All gates are locked or we have people coming in to look at buying a lot. Not for sale.
