Ck 25 Injection pump rail timimg???

A follow up on my CK25 HST injection pump failure. With some guidance from ritcheyvs and a local injection pump repair shop I decided to remove the pump myself. It was easier than I thought. The shop I took the pump too was familiar with the brand and had gears in stock. Two days later I picked the pump up and they verified one gear had two broken teeth. They replaced them with stronger gears. Cost of the complete repair with labor and tax was $116 . While I was at the shop I asked if they do mail order repairs and they are happy to repair and ship anywhere. A plug for the shop.

The gears that were in the IP before rebuild cannot be turned 180 and reused because of an area on the back side of the gear that does not have machined teeth. The area is approximately the width of 2-3 teeth, at the same height as the surrounding teeth. I've included a picture of the back side of one gear. All three gears were like this.

Everything went back together smoothly and the tractor is up and running again.

Thanks Greenecho. I live in Newman Lake and own a CK 25 as well. My tractor just stopped running yesterday. How did you make the determination that the Injector pump had failed?

DavePur, Not to preempt Greenecho, but do you have the configuration with the stop solenoid on the front of the engine and no external stop solenoid linkages? That is the configuration that exhibits the IP gear-tooth failure.

That version also has an oil fill port on a plate (which is screwed to the block) right below the IP. You can test for broken/jammed IP gears by removing this plate and the stop solenoid and checking the IP rack pin (just inside the hole) for free movement. You should be ale to move it easily with a finger providing the stop solenoid is removed or retracted (which it should do whenever the key switch is "ON").

But even before you do that, check that the stop solenoid retracts (and stays retracted) when the key is turned to ON. You should hear a distinct "clack" when you turn the key to ON and again when you turn the key OFF. If the stop solenoid does not retract (and stay retracted) the engine will not start or run. So check that first. By the way, the electrical ground path for th stop solenoid is through the block so the solenoid will not function (even with wires connected) if it is removed from the engine unless you touch or connect the solenoid case to ground (like the engine block).

Some engines just quit while running because an IP gear broke but the more common scenario is when a normally-running tractor is shut off and then will not restart. Sudden stoppage while running is more typical of interrupted current to the hold coil of the stop solenoid. This coil must be powered continuously for the engine to run.

All of the above comments apply only to the configuration with the stop solenoid on the front of the engine. There are other possible problems that prevent the engine from running but I'm trying to address your question. If you expand on "just stopped running" it may provide clues to your specific problem.

Thanks Scott. We did determine that it was the IP and I have had it rebuilt. When removing the pump the governor springs were accidently removed and now I'm trying to figure out how and where they are attached before I can reinstall the pump. The parts diagrams show them both together attached between the governor arm and a piece of linkage that sits beside the IP case just inside the oil fill plate that you mentioned. They are identified as "spring 1" and "spring 2". Any ideas?

DavPur: I trust you got the needed info via your other thread?

Also, I have been tracking Kioti IP failures reported on TBN, as a service to others and in case mine breaks: Kioti IP Data. If you don't mind, I'd like to add the model year (first digit of serial number) and operating hours for your CK, plus anything else you feel relevant.

Happy New Year and happy tractoring.
