Kubota M5700 4 WD w/ FEL, Kioti CK4010SE HST, 21' Flatbed Gooseneck Trlr.
New to Kioti , trying to hook up rear finish mower today and can稚 get the PTO shaft to free wheel or turn.
Like it痴 got a brake on it. All my other tractors you could turn the PTO shaft to line up splines on driveshaft of implement.
So any help ?

Does your CK40 have a mid-mount PTO? Do you have the ability to select between the mid and rear PTO? If so, make sure the engine is turned off and select the mid-PTO. That should allow the rear PTO to spin freely. At least it did on my old tractor.

No mid pto

Unfortunately, that's the extent of my knowledge then. About the only other thing I can think to do is try spinning the PTO shaft on the implement slightly to match the splines on the tractor PTO stub. It's a bit more difficult, but do-able on most implements I've owned.

MY mahindra 2538 has a lever seperate from the pto switch that allows the pto shaft to spin freely

Gotta be Aton of CK 35 and CK40 owners here Any Kioti people an answer?

Some people already answered you.

If you don't have a PTO gear selector, either to change between 540 and 540E or mid pto that you can put to neutral, there is not much that can be done, other than hooking the implement, lift it and try to rotate the PTO shaft on the implement. You can also add a overrunning clutch as DK35Vince said two post go, but that will mess with PTO shaft lengths and create unnecessary side loads.

How is the setup for the PTO on your tractor? Just a switch to turn it on? No other levers?

Just a rotary switch

I've got the 3510se, and if there's a way to spin the pto I haven't found it yet. I started setting my brush hog down on skids, so when I go to hook it back up, I can spin the shaft on the cutter, without it hitting grass or anything underneath. It's still somewhat difficult to spin by hand though.

For those who switch PTO implements frequently, I imagine this is more of a pain. I only run a rotary cutter on mine at the moment. I just take off the PTO shaft and leave it where it is. Next time I want to use the cutter, the splines are still in the same place. It'll become more of a pain when I get another finish mower and start using it on a new property---sold a 5 foot and want to get at least a 6 foot or larger. Even then, unless you're changing implements frequently, it's not much of an issue to rotate the PTO shaft a bit to get the splines to align.

Those PTO brakes can be a pain. Specially on tractors that only have one PTO speed. I know it's a safety thing but I don't see much point on the PTO brake. Using high inertia PTO implements like mowers, wood chippers and so on, will eventually end up burning the PTO brake. Connecting a implement, it's a absolute pain.

I've only found it useful when using a tiller and the tiller grabs a big root or something as I can quickly stop the PTO.

My CK4010HST could be rotated by hand but it was engaged by a lever.
If you have an electric engagement, no you will not be able to spin it by hand. My NX45 is the same way.
Hook up the lowers and lift a bit and then rotate implement by hand to line up splines. It is challenging.
I line up the collar, slip it as close as I can to PTO shaft and spin the implement shaft slowly and then slip the collar into the splines until it locks up. Once lined up then push in the collar and slips in.
Takes a few tries to get the hang of it.
But once you got the technique not so bad.

My PTO shaft has a brake too, it will not turn by hand. So I keep a big long screwdriver in the on-board tool box to turn the universal joint. I eyeball the splines and then rotate the CV shaft to where I think it will engage. There is still a slight free play so the alignment doesn't need to be perfect. Not elegant but it gets the job done.

Have you ever tried to shut down the engine and then tried to turn the pto shaft?

This is the way it works at my JD. Shut down the engine and it releases the PTO brake. Imagine on a heavier implement that takes 50+ HP, no way you would turn that sucker by hand or with a screwdriver. The tractor has to free up somehow. It took me a bit to figure that out but it's also in the manual.

On these smaller tractors, the PTO brake is engaged by just a spring. When the pressure if off of the clutch pack, a spring will push the piston assembly against a brake disc.

Bavarian - my Kubota works like your JD , but not this Kioti. Dealer tells me since this tractor is clutch less PTO never
Free spins.
