Hello,
First excellent tractor web site with Kioti information.

I am looking at buying a used CK20 manual gear, FEL, MMM, and scrape blade from a neighbor. She bought it just over 2 years ago, so the warranty has expired. It has 48 hrs usage, and she will sell it for the $9800 loan pay off. I like the tractor for mowing and small FEL jobs. I have a bigger tractor for the heavier stuff, JD5400 4WD 60HP w/FEL and box blade.

I did some test usage with the CK20 at my property and noticed a couple of issues. The brakes were not working on a hill. The L&R brake pedals were locked together. She said if you just push only on the left pedal the brakes work. Is that normal? That does not make sense to me since the pedals are locked together. I did not try them unlocked individually. Is there any known issues with the brakes?

She said the low/high range shifter was too hard for her to change, so she keeps it in high all of the time. I tried to put in in low range several different times and various ways, but I could not get it to go past neutral into low. It was a little hard to pull back up into high. I am wondering if this is typical or a possible transmission problem? Maybe just an adjustment is needed?

I am interested in buying this CK20, but not if it has brake and/or transmission problems that I would have to pay for repair. Would the FEL on this be subject to the cracking issue I saw some posts on? I have not investigated that yet.

Thanks for any input or suggestions,
TJ

The CK20 is a nice machine, and that's a heck of a deal on a practically new tractor. I'm sure many who have CK20's will chime in here. Can't speak to the brakes (though at 48 hours would have to be something simple, right???). Tthe range shifter probably just needs to have all the linkages greased. It probably could also be adjusted if needed. I think there have been some cracks on KL120 loaders (if that's what it has). I would inspect for these. Kioti may or may not honor problems with the loader. The jury is still out on that one. Even if they don't, a good welding shop should be able to repair it sufficiently.

At that price you can do a lot of repairs and still be ahead of the game. Perhaps, your neighbor will agree to pay or split a dealer service to have those things checked out?

My brakes won't depress sometimes also. When they won't work I move the 3ph up/down a little. I think the MMM linkage gets in the way a bit. Can't say to much about the shifter, although mine does get stuck sometimes also and I just move the tractor a tad forward or reverse then it slips into gear

Do the brakes not work, or can you not push the pedal down?
If the latter is the case it is most definitely the MMM linkage getting the way.
On the gear range selector It is the linkage needing greased.
We have had both of these issues come up.
The MMM was upon set up and the range selector was after the customer towed the unit on a salt/slush/snow covered road.
The moisture works it's way into the linkage and rusts it up.
We pulled the linkage off and coated it with Nev'r Seize and put it back.
End of problem.
I'd say that unit is a steal.
New it would in the 15k range, give or take.

Thanks for the quick responses. I'll check out the suggestions on brakes and shift linkage. On the brakes, it did appear the pedal was not moving much if any.

Any other input is welcomed,

A question on the brakes and possible MMM linkage interference. How do you fix that? Can the MMM linkage be bent some for clearance? The MMM is Kioti. I have not had a chance to look at it yet.

The MMM can be adjusted to get rid of the problem.
There are ALOT of different adjustments on the Kioti MMM.

Thanks for the info BTI. Your problem analysis was dead on. Changing the MMM height would allow the brakes to work or not work. I will need to figure out the MMM adjustment solution for that. The L/H range shifter was rusted solid to the 2/4 wheel drive lever shaft. Pushing the range lever from high to neutral caused the 2/4 wheel drive lever to raise up from 4WD to 2WD. Push the lever back down to 4WD and the range shifter moved from neutral back to high. That was weird!!! I finally got it broke loose an hour later with a lot of WD40, other lubes, and a little banging from piece of 2x4. The shifter coupler bracket needs to be removed from the shaft, rust cleaned out, and greased good. I'll do that if I get the tractor.

That is a steal with only 48 hrs and the attachments. You'll be pleasantly surprised at what that 21hp tractor can do. It's tractor weight plays a big role in what it can do. My HST model has exceeded what I thought it can do, even made a believer of my 74 y/o father-in-law when it pulled and emptied his loaded manure spreader that is 2.5 times the length of the Kioti. Not one whimper from it as it pulled it across the field, that has some rolling hills, and completed it's task. The MMM does a nice job mowing also. The rear discharge is great for spreading the clippings. I don't have a rotary mower, but I'll also use the MMM as one for longer pasture stuff. I'll keep the deck in the raised position and cut away. The FEL will pick up the rear of the tractor when digging into stiff pile of dirt. I use the tiller as extra wt. At 48 hrs it hasn't even quite made it to the break in fluid change of 50 hrs. That is a STEAL!!!!!! :)
