ck20 brushmowing?

Set me straight on something...I have heard "brush hogs" called just that for about 35 years. Is this incorrectly referring to a bushhog? I recall assembling the "brush hog" I am using now on our CK20 when I was 14 (32 years ago) and my father paid me $25. That old brush hog has mowed a 20 acre meadow several times a year plus lots of neighbors meadows each year, too. It has also cut/chopped up some pretty big trees over the years. Hard to believe it still works so well but it does. I don't even know the make but it has old faded type yellowish orange paint. Am I getting it right that all the folks around me are calling these old brush hogs the wrong names?

In middle TN people have always used the term bush hog or just hogging. I am sure it is just because of the Bush Hog brand name. Everybody drinks cokes also, regardless of what it really is. It took me awhile to get used to calling them brush cutters and such on this board. I still call all RC's bush hogs when I talk the the locals. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

More likely, the company that makes Bush Hog brand equipment took the generic term Brushhog and turned it into their brand by dropping an h. People were calling them brush hogs before that company began making rotary cutters / shredders.

The generic term for a rotary mower designed for rough cutting (aka brushhog) also seems to vary regionally. I believe the Texans call them shredders which is a pretty accurate description. We call them brushhogs in New England. I don't know which came first, the BushHog or brushhog. However, to get back to the topic of this thread, I run a 48" Bush Hog SQ480 "Squealer" on my CK20 and it does a fine job both as a cutter and as ballast.
