( I think you can get the Cummins/Allison combo in a 550 Ford. )

I sure would like that but the price tag is pretty hefty! I am switching the plates on the Dodge to farm plates next month. I figure, despite the setback with the transmission, that I will get 15 years and 200K plus out of it. As a small fruit farmer, it hauls blueberries to market in the cities during the summers but gets very little use the rest of the year. My last market truck lasted to 285K before it was retired. I gave it to a couple of workers. In exchange, they drove all over three counties finding wild elderberries. Anytime they found a particularily nice bush, they took a cutting. I used the elderberries for jam and wine and the cuttings are part of a new planting of elderberries. Who knows, maybe we will start a new line of elderberries. Anyhow, they were thrilled to get the truck and I am thrilled to have an ongoing experiment in elderberries. The last truck was made by GM, though. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I've had my "old" Dodge for close to 3 years now, and, knock on wood, haven't had any problems with the 48RE transmission.
Now if I could only get two people to agree on how to rotate 6 tires, I'd be in business /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
My daughters' got an '05 Hemi shortbed and want's to do a pull-off. I keep telling her my little 6 cylinder will probably pull the rear end off that Hemi.

( I bought a 1984 Ford 1310. I am working on it, here is a link with info: Antifreeze in oil thread.

BTW I got it in Brockton, NY )

That is a sweet little tractor, running. Our 1710 is still running and is a 1982. It could use an engine rebuild as it has lost some power but it is a nice dependable unit. I would think once you got your machine fixed, it is a good investment, as long as you did not pay too much for it.
Good luck!
