Re: CK20 will I be satisfied with it\'s performance?

I too do some side landscaping on the side with my tractor. I currently own a CK20HST I love it and am glad I didn't go bigger. Personally I would love to see more power but it has plenty. I can get a full bucket without a tooth bar without a problem on hard dry ground. It does take practice but is still easy to do. I run a 47 inch tiller, backhoe, post hole digger and box scraper. I wish I had gotten the next size up for the box scraper but this one works for the job (48inch). If the rippers dig too hard you notice it as you will hit the relief valve on the tractor. I have had several jobs now if I had the CK30 or a larger frame I would have been using a something else to do my job. Remember not only do you have the width getting into a smaller back yard you had the length to consider when getting around. The backhoe swings wide along with the front end loader it can make it tricky getting into smaller areas. Something else to consider when looking going wider will make a different so will making it longer thus also changing the turning radius. I find pulling anything generally with the backhoe 6 inches or smaller takes only a few minutes (10 to 30) 6 to 12 inches could take 10 minutes to a couple hours and bigger than that seems like 30 minutes to several hours. These times are not set in stone but generally close when I am pulling shrubs and stumps that is how I am figuring them... and the time increases if you cannot get around the plant (ie they don't want you to run over X plant and you need to avoid this spot because a fence is in the way, cannot turn around by the house here because the yard isn't wide enough etc.). I run industrial tires they are good all purpose tires don't seem to tear up the ground unless it is wet or doing a WHOLE lot of turning in tight circles I think the backhoes feet do more damage to the lawn then the tires. Good luck on what ever you buy!!

Re: CK20 will I be satisfied with it\'s performance?

I too looked at the CK 20 and thought it was a very nice tractor. Nice styling and good quality. However, I wanted a few more hp. The CK 30 was impressive, but too big to get into some places I had in mind. It is lots of tractor for your dollar. Mount a 120mm to it and you have your very own tank. Anyway, I ended up with a 7800 and like it fine. Incidentally, the 3400 is lots bigger than the 7800. As another poster suggested, look around and try them out. My suggestion would be to buy the biggest tractor you can and still get the job done. What seems big at first, will get smaller as you become accustomed to it. Good luck.

Ben

I had spent some time looking at the B7800 and the L3400. I did not think that the 3400 looked much bigger. I know it is about 700 lb's heavier but it had less in the hydro department. What I liked about the 3400 over the 7800 was the loader lift height, and the Position control. The local Kubota dealer has the B7800 at about 15,700 and the L3400 at 17500. Well, ok the extra 4 hp would be nice as well. I would probably go by the B7800 today if the loader had a greater lift height, or knew I could find one to fit the tractor. I have high sides on my truck and it just does not have enough lift. The Ck30 barely makes it, and you are right, it is an awesome looking beast.

Thanks for your thoughts.
