CK27 Owner Needs a Backhoe

I think the entire Bobcat CT225 -235 line uses rebranded Rhino FELs and BHs; so buying a Rhino for one later should work just fine once you have the frame and valves installed.

Yes $15,000! That includes clearing the lot area (in a forest), then digging the hole, tank, filter sand...

There is obviously considerable profit here. Materials and equipment fees are about $4k, and it takes 2 days with two guys at most to do. A surgeon makes less. A septic guy is not a surgeon.

I suggest 7.5 foot. I have a Rhino 75. It's been great. Not sure if you can get a thumb for it though. Woods and Kioti are good too. Frame mount is the ony way to go. And yes, you can figure about $1000 per foot or so. And you will also want a set of rear remotes (if you don't already have them), plumbed with 1/2" line. The bigger line gives you better performance. And a thumb is probably nice and all, but I haven't run into situations where I need it so much. I do have a big 18" bucket. Great for digging and all, but would like a 9" for trenching. Just can't justify $500 for the extra bucket. So, if you only have one, I say go 16 -18".

Rhino now has thumbs offered on all their backhoes. Manual only no hydraulic one yet!;)

My first CK-20 had a Woods backhoe; my second CK-20S was bought with the Kioti backhoe. Both were framemount, however the newer Kioti backhoe is much larger than the Woods one that was supplied with my first tractor. I have both the 16" and 9" buckets.

I don't know if you have a choice in septic tanks, but if you can use a horizontal one your hole will be easier to dig. The rest of the work you can do with your backhoe, so the horizontal tank option may be what you need to do.

Be sure to backfill around your septic tank with pea gravel (not to be confused with pee gravel). This 1/4" round stone allows frost in adjoining ground to move without pushing against your tank. The guys who put in my first tank did not use this; eight years later I had to put in a new tank.

The apple tree alongside also produced far less apples after the tank was replaced, too.

Good luck with your project - a great one to offset your backhoe cost.

Jon
