Will the CK30 and Kioti box blade cut a dry hard packed driveway?

Thanks,Tony

I would think that it will, I used a 48" box blade and BX2200 on my Mom's driveway, and it worked well, let down the diggers and shortened the top link, dug it up to get rid of the pot holes and then I went over it with the diggers up and the toplink long. good seat time.

Yep, I've got a BB20-60 behind a CK30HST that will cut mine, and it's mostly rock. Not fast but it works.

If you shorten the top link, in other words, make the front lower and the back higher, drop the rippers down, it will dig in well and tear it up. If you have a bouncing problem at first, add some weight somehow, maybe concrete blocks.
Once you're gotten a start into it, it should start to tear it up good. Later, you'll want to readjust the top link so that you can get the rear inside blade to grab a box of dirt for redistribution.

Could someone explain how a box blade is used, generally, and where and why? I have a 1/3 mi long partially steep driveway mostly dirt, ruts, some gravel, some big rocks. Just got a CK30HST and ordered a Central Tractor "Professional" 6' tilting blade.

How would a box blade help? I just stared at them at Central Tractor, thinking they would only be good for fine landscaping use...

Thanks

Mike

The blade is good for leveling and "minor" cutting down in the dirt if it is somewhat soft or loose. I also use mine to plow snow from the driveway.
A box blade, as others have explained, has diggers or rippers. Almost what you see on hoe buckets. You can shorten the top link and have them lower which lets them cut into and rip up the ground. Then the box part will level and carry the material that you dug up. Level the box, which picks up the rippers, and you should be able to get a reasonably smooth job.
From how you explained your driveway, you may want the box blade instead unless you only have loose material to move around.

Thanks, that gets me thinking. I did plan to "create" loose material with the rear blade but I'm beginning to understand the digging up part of the box blade...

Then youll want the Tip n Tilt hydraulics on the rear to tilt and angle the box blade for driveway corners... and on and on goes the wish list. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
I believe its nice to have rear blades wider than rear tires to give a finished appearance. Everyone agree??

I was suprised how much leveling I could do with a landscape rake on my driveway. I waited for a light rain and leveled it out nicely. The rake brings the existing gravel to the surface and spreads it around. It's all I use anymore.

I've used a BB and a landscape rake. I particularly like being able to turn the rake around, adjust the top link so it doesn't dig in much, and then drag it around like a harrow for leveling.
That said though, I find the BB a much more versatile tool.
