If we were talking about an attachment used on more than one tractor then Xcontamination could be an issue but on a dedicated BH for the same tractor then it doesn't seem to be a problem. The benefits of using the tractors hydraulics far outweigh any risk in the case of the CK30HST. So yeah, you're right.

I think, for the vast majority of users, the loader and T&T don't get taken off nearly as often as a backhoe does, opening up the possibility of getting dirt into the system.

With a separate pump, the tractor's main system is not subjected to this possibilty.

I use mine with the system hydraulics, but I can tell you that when I put the backhoe on, it is very difficult to get all the dirt off the connetors. Yes, I cover them when not on, and I blow them off with compressed air, but I can tell you, there's always at least a little stuff on there that gets into the system.
Hydro pumps are very sensitive to any particles of dirt, filters notwithstanding. Yes, I think Kioti has good filtering systems, but they are not infallible in any tractor.

The extra piece of mind from having a separate pump and reservoir may just be worth the extra cost to some.

Personally I would use the tractor hydraulics vs PTO pump.
With the PTO pump you have the pump to fumble around with every time you remove/install the hoe. Also it gives you another seperate system to maintain. (filter and hydraulic oil)

Vince, you make a couple of good points. I would hate to have any more hassle than is necessary myself.
However, one other thing that may be an advantage to having a separate system, and I don't know the specs, but it's possible that a separate system could be bought that has a higher pump flow if the tractor's pump capacity is a little low.
I'm sticking to using the tractor's system myself.

Our CK30s, with the HST have a pretty substantial hydraulic flow rate. That is good for running the hoe off of the tractor's system. An older tractor or a gear model with low flow would benefit from the PTO BH. You may have to hook up the PTO pump each time but you don't have to mess with connecting the tractor hydraulics or turning that goofy diverter valve. The life of the PTO BH fluid and filter would be longer than the tractor fluid's life since it sees reduced use.

On the higher flow pump...
You are at the mercy of the capacity of your sump.
If you turn the oil over too quickly, it will overheat badly and breakdown more rapidly.
If you increase the pump flow, you should increase the sump size also.
Of course this depends on the size of the original sump.
If it was already "oversized" you would be fine.

Yes, the hyd QA hoses are more convenient to use, versus
attaching a PTO pump. The Prairie Dog backhoe folks have
provided a gear increaser PTO pump to deal with low flow
rates on old tractors. That is not a problem with modern
CUTs in my experience.

As for contamination of fluid in a PTO pump b/h.....I have seen
numerous hoes with PTO pump and res where the fluid and
filter prob never gets changed. A quick check of the breather
on these hoes often reveals rust inside the cap and filler tube.
A tractor hyd system seals up a detached hoe extremely well.

PTO pump will also require that you operate at higher engine rpm's, won't it? Noisier; more fuel consumption, but perhaps a cooler engine. Also less wear and tear on the tractor hydraulics. Yet, more things to maintain..... Hmmm much to consider.
