I can't get the 2 backhoe hoses connected to the tractor.

I took off the backhoe about a year ago for the bushhog and didn't put it back on.

Now, I'm trying to push the hoses into the slots and I can't get EITHER of them in far enough to 'click'.

The caps have been on the entire period - everything looks clean - hydraulic pressure relieved. I've taken the backhoe off before and don't recall difficulty connecting.

What am I doing wrong, or, what should I try?

I think you hit the nail on the head!

I relieved the tractor side pressure but didn't think (didn't know) there was anything to do on the backhoe side other than wiggling the controls.

I found another post that said to wrap a cloth around the male ends and wack then with a (rubber) hammer.

I did that and to my (pleasant) surprise, they were indeed (still) under pressure.

Thanks.

Common mistake. I used to have this issue with my BX22 all the time. Glad you got it fixed!

I have learned to take a ball-peen hammer and a rag with me when I go to hook up the BH.
Relieving the pressure sure puts and end to the frustration:)
Glad you got her going.

When I reattach my backhoe, all I do is move the controls in all different positions along with the stabilizers and then connecting them is a piece of cake. I also leave the hydraulic flow lever in Neutral while the backhoe is disconnected.

I had this problem also on a CK20 and posted here about it.

I got all kinds of suggestions but what ended up working was to take two wrenches and bleed the pressure out of the backhoe side at the fittings just behind the hook-ups. I've been doing this over a year and no leaks or major loss of fluid has occured. Each time I do it, I only lose about 2 tbsp of fluid.

When the problem is on the tractor side, throttling it down and working the hydraulic lever back and forth works every time.

I'm a fan of the ball peen hammer, rag and a short piece of brass rod (for the female side if needed).

A better mouse trap! I bought this fitting at Tractor Supply, It works as advertised the only problem was a little oil leakage from the fitting while disconnected from the tractor most probably due to temperature changes that opened and closed the pressure release port on the fitting. No more fighting with the pressure problem and I would recomend it no matter where you buy it. About $12.00

I had this problem once until I looked down and discovered I could move the tractor back (closer to subframe) a bit yet. When I did so, the connection easily came together. All I could say was, "duh".
