Oil & Fuel CK35 square sockets for drain plugs?

I was thinking of suggesting trying a 12 point around the size you suspect, but I thought that might sound silly.

A 12 point socket or a 12 spline ("Universal") may fit, in that is it slips over the square post and resists turning by hand. In my experience the leverage of the (ratchet, breaker bar, sliding "T" bar) handle is often enough to bugger the corners of a stubborn plug. Although crescent wrenches are often frowned upon, such an adjustable wrench with pressure on the thumbwheel to hold it tight is often the "right" tool. A dab of never seize on re-insertion will reduce subsequent stubbornness.

Well, I measured and I think a 1 1/4" or 32mm six point socket should work.

What you need for square plugs are 8 point sockets.

Take it off once with an adjustable wrench, then

1. file or grind 2 sides a tiny bit so your 3/4 inch wrench fits. Then get an 8pt 3/4 socket.

or

2. weld a hex nut onto the end of the plug.

or

3. get a new plug with a standard sized head.

OK... To recap: for my CK35, both engine oil drain plugs are square in shape, and male. The best fitting tool I found for those is a six point socket in 3/4". The rear drain (for hydraulic fluid) plug has six sides, and measures 30mm. I went to Sears this morning to buy a six point socket for that plug, and ended up with a combination wrench (open/12 point). That's all they had in stock. I will use the open side, as it fits the plug perfectly.

I will research 8 point sockets. Never heard of them before.

^^ Have you ever seen one of these? I have never used one and cannot recommend them, but for a situation where there isn't any great amount of torque involved, they might just work. I've seen them in a few places and under different names too.

Or they could be total junk.

Depending on the price, I might be willing to try one! Could be useful when one encounters a truly oddball fitting... if it works!
