BTW, the starter button was on the floorboard next to the gas pedal.

My Grandpa had a 1951 Chevy coupe with the starter pedal on the floor and a 3 speed on the column.

I have an Uncle who built s similar truck. Looked like it just rolled off the factory floor in the early 1950's. Except...

He mad his 4x4. No huge lift and monster tires. But 4x4, cut the axles down himself( he is a great mechanic and fabricator). It has the straight six, but he found some 1950's hot rod parts for it; Fenton header, dual carb intake etc. I have not seen it in a couple of years, but it was gorgeous. And I'm a Mopar guy

Mine was a half ton with a three speed on the column. It had a habit of sticking in gear between second and third gear. I always carried a brass hammer with me and I would crawl underneath from the driver's side and tap the linkage to correct the problem. It was a 1/2 ton.

GM must have never sorted out that issue. My first vehicle was a '69 Chevy half ton, 3 on the column. Those things were known for hanging up in second gear. Used to have to get out, raise the hood and manipulate the linkage by hand.
Finally gave up and bought a Hurst floor shift conversion kit.
