You are not forced to answer every question. Just fill out what you feel comfortable with.

I agree. Just fill out the ones you want and forget about the rest. Some like to tell all, others don't.

Hobbyfarm,
You have it figured out, that site is just a data mining site.

That may be true to some extent, but I have never had a problem with it since I registered a couple years ago. And I have received some e-mails from long lost friends. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Also received some news about former classmates that have passed away. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Well Bill, Maybe it is not just a data mining site. However when I went to the site a year or so ago it had no students from my school in there. So apparently all the logins are supposed to build their database for them.

Are you sure you had the correct State and Town? I know that there are quite a few school names that are the same all over the US. Just a thought.

Ben - That is quite a surprise. There are 48 members of my graduating class of about 130 that are registered. I don't remember having to do anything special to get access to that list. I graduated in 1964 (telling my age /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif) in small town Texas. Maybe it varies a lot by locale and/or time since graduation.

You can get a list of students for FREE. If you want to email someone directly, plus look at more details of someone's profile, you need to pay for a full-membership.

There are 112 members from my graduating class on there.

Don't know if if has changed since I registered. I did the free registration, not the paid membership. I got 3 or 4 e-mails from them soliciting a paid membership, but I did not do it and they soon stopped. I can't e-mail the person direct, but I can e-mail them. It gets directed thru the classmates.com server and they are notified they have an e-mail. Likewise, if someone e-mails me, I am notified by classmates.com that I have an e-mail and I can log in and get it. Then you can exchange direct e-mail addresses if you want.

Probably the only reason I remember how many were in my graduating class is because there were 58 of us who graduated in '58. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Ten of us are registered on classmates.com, but I only did the free one, quite a few years ago, and I'm still getting the e-mails trying to sell me a paying membership. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

budman and everyone else,
Be careful who you give information to. I was almost taken by a fake Pay Pal E-Mail. The E-Mail looked just fine but I got a weird feeling. I E-Mailed Pay Pal and told them I got this E-Mail and they said it was bogus. I turned the address into a couple of security sites. I received another E-Mail a couple of days later from another fake site. These Phishers can get there websites to look like the real thing. When I get an E-Mail or phone call requesting info I hang up and call them back myself with the number I have or send an E-Mail to the address I have myself. I would hate to here how someone was taken in by these people. Be careful out there.

Use a variety of internet search engines will get you a lot of information on someone for free.

The more you have out there the more likely you are to be approached.

Even this board can be peaked at by google.

Well it looks like they have changed it. I tried using the classmates e-mail last night and it would not let me do it any more. Said I would have to pay a membership to access e-mail. Oh well. I had not used it in a long time, so I won't miss it.

Gerard,
Yep, no one from my school was in there. This was a year or more ago though, have not been back there since. Maybe some of my old classmates have input their data by now.

Ben
